The Best Booksharing Hunt in the World

Teresa Dixon
Have a book to share? Book Crossing, described as the world's library, is gaining momentum around the world as a wonderful book treasure hunt. Similar to geocaching but without the GPS unit, books are stickered, registered online and left in public places for others to find. With thousands of books being released worldwide each week it is likely there will be some in a city or town near you. In the past three days (as of this writing) there were 27,382 books released worldwide with the top countries being Germany with 5,915 books, UK with 5,589 books and USA with 5,501 books.

Registration on the site takes seconds and allows you to find where books have been released, journal about the books you find, purchase stickers and other items to start your successful releasing of books, and of course track your released books.

This is a wonderful way to not only share your books but to get your children involved in reading as well. Release a few of your children's books and let them watch how far it travels and how many people read it and send it on. Go on a family outing to find a few books of your own. Most of all have fun with this and spread the word, the more books that get released to more hunting we can do.

Go to www.bookcrossing.com and start hunting!

(a special thank you to my co-workers who turned me on to bookcrossing)
