Where to Camp While Vacationing in the Catskill Mountains
Bear Spring Mountain is located at 512 East Trout Brook Road, Downsville NY, 13755. Here you can rent a campsite for just $16.00 per night. Bear Spring Mountain is located at eastern end of the Catskill Mountains. This campground takes you back to the basics. Opening in the middle of May, the campgrounds remain open until Labor Day. It is a small campground with only forty one sites. Tents and campers are welcome. Though it is small, it is a great place for bringing families closer. There is a picnic area and swimming beach available for campers to use. You can also rent row boats, canoes and kayaks for use on Launt Pond. No motor boats are allowed on the pond. The campground offers campers the opportunity to purchase firewood, a recycling center and a trailer dump station. For the equine lovers there are twenty-four horse tie stalls and a horse accessible ramp. There are miles of trails for horseback riding. For the avid fisherman, you can either fish in the lake or the stream that runs through the campgrounds, both are full of fish. The beauty of this rustic campground is enough to make any vacation memorable.
Devil's Tombstone is a small campground located at Route 214, Hunter NY, 12442. For the nominal fee of only $14.00 per night, you can rent a tent or trailer campsite. Devil's Tombstone is primitive camping at its best at one of the oldest campgrounds in the Catskill area. You can get back to the basics of life here. Though it is not the most up-to-date facility, it is a place hikers will enjoy. There are numerous trails with beauties that are breath taking. The middle of May is when the campground opens and it remains open until Columbus Day. You will find only twenty-four tent or trailer camp sites with 2 picnic table areas at Devil's Tombstone. For grilling there are charcoal grills or a fireplace. For the kiddies there is a playground they will love. Hunting is permitted outside of the campground. The swimming and boating areas are eight miles from the campground. Basically, Devil's Tombstone is for the serious camper looking to take life down a notch or two. It is a beautiful area, just not designed for those unable to survive without all the luxury amenities.
Woodland Valley is located at 1319 Woodland Valley Road, Phoenicia NY, 12464. A campsite will run you $18.00 per night. At the bottom of Slide Mountain is where you will find Woodland Valley campgrounds. Camp sites are available from the middle of May through Columbus Day. A slightly larger campground, there are seventy-two campsites for trailers or tents. There are more amenities here than some of the other smaller campgrounds. You will be able to find flush toilets, hot showers, a trailer dump station, a recycle center, mobility impaired accessibility, and a pay phone. Fisherman will enjoy casting their rods in Woodland Valley Stream. Hikers can take off up Slide Mountain and take in all the breath taking beauties the mountain offers. There is no swim beach available at Woodland Valley.
No matter where you choose to camp, the Catskill Mountains is the place to bunker in. The scenery is second to none and the air is clean and fresh. Plan you vacation today!
