I have had extreme experiences with Chevrolets. I believe I owned and drove the worse Chevy ever made, as well as the finest Chevy every made.
The Chevy Vega
I drove a Chevy Vega and it had to be the worst car ever made. It was always in the shop for repair, and it was almost impossible to maintain it and keep it on the road. Ultimately, a flaw in the design made it impossible to continually repair it. The cooling pipes on the cooling system were simply too small to cool the engine. So the car overheated with normal use. The car had an aluminum block engine that would warp when the engine overheated. Then the pistons would stick in the engine and the whole engine block would have to be replaced,
The Chevy Nova
I had the exact experience with my 1976 Chevy Nova. The car was a bear that just kept going and going and going, and it never wanted to quit. It was extremely reliable and economical. I bought the car in 1984 for $1400 and drove it until 1998 when I had to junk it. The car was already eight years old when I bought it and I drove it for another fifteen years. The Nova rarely broke down and needed repair, and it was very economical with gas. Replacement parts were also fairly inexpensive,
The car was easy to handle and rode smoothly. It was a simple car with a three speed automatic transmission, and a straight six-cylinder 250 cu in engine. The car was easy to drive as I just shifted into drive on the automatic transmission and away I went.
The Automobile Industry
Automobiles are a major item of interest at this web site. We have published articles about how cars are made, how we drive them, and our positive and negative experiences with cars. Bringing back the automobile industry in America can develop countless jobs and help alleviate the unemployment crisis.
