The Best Chinese Restaurants in Portland, Oregon

Sally Albright
When it comes to dining out Chinese restaurants happen to be a favorite. There are a variety of options available in Portland Oregon and its surrounding suburbs and I have a vow to try them all. Though I must say that I have been to quite a few and can tell you which ones you should definitely try if you live or ever visit the Portland area.

Best Chinese Buffet in Beaverton, Oregon: China Moon

Beaverton is a suburb located just outside of Portland and is the home of many different Chinese buffet style restaurants. You can find Buffet Palace, Treasure Island Buffet, Tin Tin Buffet, and of course China Moon. China Moon outshines them all. They do not offer quite the variety of the other restaurants but I prefer quality over quantity when it comes to food. Their dumplings, General Tso's Chicken, and Sushi get me to go back there over and over again. They also have delicious Egg Drop and Wonton Soup. The price is competitive yet their food tastes the best. Though the food at China Moon is fantastic one of the best parts of dining here is the great service. You can find the Beaverton Oregon China Moon at:

10743 SW Beaverton Hillsdale
Beaverton, OR 97005

Best Dim Sum in Portland, Oregon: Fong Chong

Talk about delicious dim sum. Fong Chong has been a favorite stop for my family since we first discovered it two years ago. We have eaten here a handful of times though if it were closer to home it would have been a lot more often. Located in Chinatown in downtown Portland Oregon this place offers a variety of delicious dishes and the cost is minimal. My family of four plus baby were able to eat a variety of dim sum dishes until we were full and only ended up paying just under $30. The fried shrimp is delicious as well as their shumai keeps us coming back for more. The restaurant is also quite large and can accomodate a lot of guests on a busy Saturday afternoon. Every time we visit the staff is friendly and our kids usually leave with a complimentary lollipop afterwards. You can find Fong Chong at:

301 NW 4th Ave
Portland, OR 97209

Best Mongolian Restaurant in Hillsboro: Gogo Mongolian Feast

Gogo Mongolian Feast is the best Mongolian restaurant in the entire Portland area. Their restaurants are
clean, their food is delicious, and the prices aren't half bad. Whenever I get a hankering for some delicious
Chinese food Gogo is the first place I think of. Located in Hillsboro Oregon, about half an hour from
downtown Portland, Gogo has a delicious variety of meats, vegetables, and sauces to choose from to create your ultimate feast.
Even my children get excited from the mention of a visit to Gogo. Dinner for adults cost just $9.50 for one
bowl of food or you can opt for the all you can eat for $12.95. Kids cost just $4.50 for ages 3-6 and $6.50
ages 7-11. This includes one bowl of food, kids drink, and a bowl of ice cream. You can find Gogo Mongolian
Feast at:

20495 SW Baseline Rd.
Hillsboro, OR 97006

Best Sit Down Chinese Restaurant in Portland, Oregon: Fu Jin

Fu Jin can be found in the Hawthorne District of Portland Oregon. It's a small Chinese restaurant and not
well known but well worth the trip. My husband took me here before he deployed for a nice quiet lunch
out alone. The food arrived hot and delicious and very fast. The wait staff was friendly as well. I ordered the
General Tso's Chicken and my husband had a spicy fried rice type of dish that was very delicious and different
than anything we've had at a Chinese restaurant before. Their menu wasn't large but again I prefer quality
over quantity. Hawthorne is a very popular little shopping district in downtown Portland and so it can be hard
to find little spots like these amongst the more popular restaurants such as Nick's Coney Island restaurant.
You can find Fu Jin at:

3549 SE Hawthorne Blvd
Portland, OR 97214

Now that you know restaurants to visit you may want to know about a few that you should stay away from.
One of these place is House of Louie located in China Town in downtown Portland. When my family visited
we ordered the chow mein and was given a plate of cold noodles topped with gravy. Hardly what I would
call Chow Mein. When it comes to Chinese buffets I would stay away from Tin Tin buffet in Tigard Oregon,
just outside of Portland, because the restaurant is dirty and the food isn't worth going back again for. If you
enjoy good service then stay away from Buffet Palace in Beaverton Oregon because the wait staff is the most
rude people I have ever come across in any restaurant. Wu's Open Kitchen in Beaverton is a popular destination
however their booths were falling apart and the food was less than so-so.

So the next time you are hankering
for some delicious Chinese food in the Portland Oregon are consider one of the above listed restaurants and
stay away from the ones I have listed in the paragraph above. You'll thank me, I'm sure.

Got any recommendations for Chinese restaurants that serve authentic Chinese food? I don't generally eat the Americanized stuff like General Tso Chicken... And I haven't heard good things about Fong Chong's dim sum in like a decade from other Chinese people... But ever since moving away from Portland, I've lost track of where the Chinese people go for their fix and the places you mention don't seem to be the right types of places either...
