The Best Chocolate Gifts for Your Lovely Mum This Mother's Day

A Profile of the Best in Chocolate for Mother's Day Gifts

Alert! Alert! Mother's Day is on it's day. I know you know that it's in May, but are you sure you know what day? Well, here's a reminder: Mother's Day is on Sunday, May 10, 2009. I know that sounds like a lot of time, but really, things creep up on you, and if you're not careful, you'll find yourself standing at your mother's door on Mother's Day with a fistful of her neighbor's petunias. Avoid the humiliation and get your gifts early.

Chocolates are a great Mother's Day gift to buy ahead of time because kept properly, chocolates will stay good for a very long time; certainly long enough to deliver to your loving mother on the only Mother's Day of the year. Mother's Day jewelry can also be a good option if you need to buy your Mother's Day gift early, but if you can't afford nice jewelry, excellent chocolates are often available for a reasonable price right at your fingertips.

Godiva Chocolates

Godiva Chocolates is my favorite commercial chocolate company, and it is certainly my mother's favorite chocolate company as well. There is something exquisite about the way that Godiva truffles melt in my mouth, and of all the chocolate companies, Godiva has the chocolate flavor that I prefer the most.

Godiva offers a wide array of different types of chocolate gifts, and all of them are wrapped in a very beautiful and high-class box or wrapper. If you are able to buy the gift right before you see your mother, you can even get her some wonderful chocolate-covered fruits such as chocolate-covered strawberries. Godiva uses huge strawberries and the chocolate is awesome; if you can't pick up some as a gift, at least buy one as a treat for yourself the next time you are near a Godiva shop. Those chocolate-covered strawberries are a wonder to behold between your lips. Any mom who really loves chocolate will love a gift from Godiva.

See's Candies

Another favorite gift chocolate of mine is See's Candies. As I said, Godiva is my favorite chocolate flavor, but if you're into fun stuff like truffles with crazy and colorful fillings, such as butter pecan, raspberry, and the like, you want to hit See's. See's is also pretty liberal with the samples, so you'll get your money's worth if you ask to taste a few before you buy.

I have to say that I do not generally like Russell Stover's candies, which can be bought at your local grocery store. They are too sweet, and their flavors are simple and boring, and honestly, if I get them as a gift, they usually sit mostly uneaten because one or another of the candy types is simply unbearable.

You are better off getting a smaller, more quality gift at a real chocolatier than insulting your beautiful mother with a sub-par budget Mother's Day gift. Seriously, for just a couple bucks more than a Russell Stover's stamped out box, you can get a lovely little box of truffles at Godiva or See's, wrapped in an elegantly designed package.

Unless, of course, your mother likes Russell Stover's, in which case you should buy her something else, because she obviously doesn't really, truly like chocolate.
