The Best Christmas Gift!

Anne Marie
It was a cloudy morning, slightly overcast and looking a bit like rain. We woke up early and waited for the children to get up. They came in the living room like stampeding elephants and tore through their packages like little tornados on speed. "Is that all my daughter asked?" looking under the tree for that last package that may have gotten missed. "Look, there is one all the way in the back!" she squealed with delight until she pulled it out and it had my name on it.

It wasn't very big, nor was it very heavy, but sure enough it had my name on it. The handwriting gave away who it was from, as I pondered what on earth it could be. I stared at it for a while, a little afraid to open it, when my husband nudged me with a knowing smile on his face. The paper was hastily wrapped with untold amounts of tape on it. I could barely get a fingernail under the paper to open. Apparently, as I learned later, he didnt want me to peek.

The paper finally came off with a good amount of tearing and grunting. Inside was a box about the size of a shoe box. I turned the box over and read "Easy Spirit" on the top of the box. "No, he didnt get me shoes!" I thought to myself on the edge of terror. I hate shoes for Christmas and he knows that. I slowly pull the top off of the box and close my eyes, afraid to see what may be in the box.

"Come on, Look!" he encouraged me happily. As I open my eyes, I see the pale purple fleece slippers I had been ogling at the store. My feet immediately cried out for the fuzzy warmth of the slippers. I slid them on and it was heaven on earth. They were warm, soft, fuzzy, and comfortable enough to wear all the time.. I was so relieved. These were the best gift I could have gotten, and he had gotten them for me.

We had been struggling for money and I had set myself to be ready for no gift this year. I had made myself believe that I would get nothing. Of course, I was wrong. These slippers arent those socks you see with the tread on the bottom and they aren't the kind your grandmother would wear. THey are somewhat like shoes and encompass the whole foot in warmth and comfort. I'm a pushover for a good pair of slippers and these made my year!

So, in short, Easy Spirit High top Slippers, were and will be for a while the best Christmas gift of 2008!
