The Best Christmas of My Life

SereneRose
One of the best Christmases I remember though it was the Christmas my mother had revealed to us there was no such thing as Santa was when I was seven years old in 1992. We were walking home from somewhere and she told us there was no such thing as Santa. I remember she said there used to be a long time ago in Germany but he died back in the 1800's and he gave gifts to the orphanages. That week we had ran into a homeless guy at the laundromat we often passed going to school and ran back home to tell mom, she made him a quick hot breakfast and sent us on our way. When we gave it to him he was very thankful, however, we never saw him after that. When it came to Christmas day there was two boxes of food and bunches of toys lined up on the floor. The reason it was so special was because at that time my mom was a single mother living on a waitress's salary and tips barely scraping by living in a motel room putting up with us three children. My mom said that the church must have dropped it off. Also that Christmas we were selected for a shopping spree for kids. I remember though we were on the spree ourselves my sister insisted on getting stuff for us and not just for herself.
