The Best Christmas Songs Through the Years

Jessica Frame
Christmas songs, especially pop Christmas songs, make the Season of Giving come alive. These Christmas songs are upbeat and warm the heart singing about being with family, friends, and the one you love the most. The best Christmas songs are played on every elevator, radio station, restaurant and any other public place where music may be playing. Most of the best songs stay the same from year to year; others fade with time, but it's always fun to go back and look, maybe there are some songs you've forgotten about that were once your favorite Christmas songs as well.

All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey

A hit since the 90's this song will warm your heart, making you feel like a marshmallow; whether you are in a relationship or not. You should know who Mariah Carey is, and if you don't; I know you've at least heard this song.

Last Christmas - Wham!

Probably the only so called "break-up" song of Christmas that everyone can relate to. Have you ever had a boyfriend or girlfriend dated you through Christmas only to break-up with you a couple of days later; this is exactly what this song talks about.

Santa Baby - Madonna

Made famous in the 1950's by Eartha Kitt and recorded by several other big artists since then; the biggest being Madonna in the 80's or 90's. This by far the sexiest Christmas song; making me want to curl my hair, put on my sexiest outfit and sit on Santa's lap, letting him know what I want for Christmas.

Santa Claus Is Coming to Town - Bruce Springsteen

Good ol' Bruce does what he does best with this song. He takes a Christmas song for kids and makes it appeal to all generations through Rock and Roll.

The Chipmunks Song - Chipmunks

Very cute song about what a chipmunk would want for Christmas. I wish I could talk like a Chipmunk all the time; how cool would that be?

This Christmas - Chris Brown

I like Chris Brown's version of this song the most. He has such a sugary voice that every I hear it I can't help but listen when he sings; throw in the beautiful lyrics of this song with his voice, and you can listen to this one song all day long.

Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee

A favorite for all ages, every time I hear this song I think of Home Alone 1. I don't know why, I guess it has to do with childhood memories and associating the song to the movie.

You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch - Thurl Ravenscroft

OK everyone knows at least one "Grinch" around the holiday season. If you aren't familiar with this song, then you've been hiding under a rock for the last few decades.

Have a Holly Jolly Christmas - Burl Ives

Alright, now Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without this song. I remember listening Burl Ives sing this song as the snow man in the original Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, definitely a season favorite.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas - Perry Como

I don't officially consider it the holiday season until I've heard this song; and when you hear it one time it's stuck in your head for the rest of the holiday season. I wouldn't be surprised if you caught yourself singing this tune at least once a day during this time of year.
