The Best Conversation Topics for a First Date

One of the most often talked about subjects between men is dating. The first date can really make or break a relationship and for most guys, first dates are extremely nerve racking and pressurizing. Guys often ask each other what to say on a first date and some guys even have trouble thinking of something to say to their date of a first date. Probably the worst thing that can happen to you on a first date is to have silence instead of conversation. Although it is true that as a guy you are supposed to listen to women talk about themselves and their boring lives, which you probably don't care anything about, as a guy, you also have to add something to the conversation to make a woman take an interest in you. Here is my advice for conversation starters on a first date.

Careers: There is nothing more popular to talk about between men and women than careers. You simply cannot go wrong. Even if you have a boring job or a job you hate like being a janitor or the fact that you work at McDonald's can be interesting if you spin it the right way. For example, if you do work at McDonald's you can tell your date about the way the food is cooked or not cooked and interesting stories you have between customers. If you have a job that is absolutely boring like doing tax returns, focus on your job atmosphere and client interactions instead of the small details that your date probably won't care about. Your date probably doesn't know anything about taxes other than the fact that she has her tax person do them for her every year. If you start talking about something that you can tell your date is not interested in, then you should switch topics. Better yet, ask your date is tell you about her career and job.

Current events: This is another great area that you really can't go wrong. If something happened in the news worthwhile you can bring it up in conversation. For example, a few weeks ago a tiger escaped from a San Francisco Zoo, killing a person. You can talk about this over with your date.

Traveling: Women love hearing about people who travel because it seems exotic and exciting. Women tend to love excitement and if you have traveled to another country or even a state that is far away from where you live, you should talk about it and ask your date if she has traveled anywhere.

Television and entertainment: This is another great topic because everyone watches television. Talk about your favorite television show or movie or celebrity. Most woman love celebrity and entertainment gossip and this is a great talking point.
