You can expect to see carts loaded with food being wheeled all around the restaurant. What at first glance seems like chaos is actually a well orchestrated dance. All your mother has to do is point to anything that tickles her fancy when the carts stop by the table. Mom can ask the server any questions about the ingredients and inspect how it looks. If it meets with her approval, it is placed on the table and the check is stamped. Mom will feel like a queen at this Mother's Day brunch.
The best part about a Mother's Day dim sum brunch is being able to try a wide variety of Chinese cuisine with the best assortments available on Saturday and Sunday. The more people you have in your group, the more dishes you get to sample. So why not invite the whole family?
Once you divvy up the check, it should cost $10 to $20 per person. To avoid the crowd arrive by 10:30 AM. If you arrive too late in the day most of the popular selections will be gone.
Not sure where to go for your Mother's Day dim sum brunch? Here is a list of the top 3 dim sum restaurants in the Phoenix area.
If this is mom's first time at dim sum go to Golden Buddha. It is located at 668 N. 44th street in the Chinese Cultural Center. The beauty of the location will inspire mom's appetite. The servers are English friendly. The shrimp and mango egg rolls are highly recommended. If there's a little one with you grab a plate of Chinese pigs in a blanket. It is a sausage wrapped by a sweet roll. Try a bite and you might just decide to keep them for yourself. Be sure to take mom on a stroll around the breathtaking gardens and visit the koi filled pond afterwards. She will remember the gardens long after this Mother's Day has passed.
C-Fu Gourmet in the far east valley is another great place for dim sum. It is located at 2051 W Warner Rd. My favorite are the sesame balls. They are deep fried rice flour balls, filled with sweet lotus bean paste and then covered with sesame seeds. They please all areas of the palate by being crunchy, chewy, sweet and savory all at the same time. Another must try are the chicken curry pastries. Most people think curry is going to be spicy but these are not. The outside is a light flaky crust. The inside is chicken, curry and other spices and some veggies. Your first bite will leave you looking for more.
Great Wall located at 3446 W. Camelback Rd is as far west as dim sum gets in the valley. It is very popular among the Asian community with good reason. This is the most authentic dim sum. Don't let that scare you off. The staff here is extremely friendly. On our most recent trip my son asked for egg rolls as we were being seated. The hostess went out of her way to find the cart with egg rolls and brought them back to our table. Be sure to try the white, rice flour noodles that contain either shrimp, beef or pork called cheung fun. These soft noodles melt in your mouth without being sticky.
Dim sum is a great way to celebrate Mother's Day this year. Once experienced, you will find dim sum is great for any reason. Don't be afraid to taste something that looks interesting. Yes, chicken feet and tripe are available, but ask before getting any dish to avoid eating anything unwanted. With offerings that are sweet, savory or spicy dim sum offers a variety of dishes that can satisfy everyone's appetite. A Mother's Day dim sum brunch will leave mom with a full belly and a big smile this Mother's Day.

I'll send this on to my sister-in-law in Phoenix.
I love dim sum.
Oh I'd love to visit a restaurant like the ones you describe. We have a few around here but the best one is a small hole in the wall place that we often get take-out from at least once a week; well we did until I began having problems with my gallbladder. I love all ethnic types of food but Chinese is probably my favorite of them all running at almost a tie for Indian food. I'm hoping I can find time & successfully throw, fire, glaze, and glaze fire a tagine dish so I can serve Indian food in a tagine rather than plain southern-style dishware, which is a staple in my house with exception of reusable chopstick sets and my own espresso bar (Miss Sylvia with non-dosing Rocky machines by Rancillio - best espresso machines for residential use made).
Great information! Thanks!
I am hungry now for some cheung fun..and steamed pork buns! YUM!
