The fist most important thing to know is that you can't use the excuse work would not let you off. They have to let you perform jury duty as well as pay you for any loss time at work. So simply saying my job will not let me or they need me to be at work will not fly.
The number one reason the courts will let you off of jury duty is if you have small children at home and no reliable babysitter to watch them while you perform your jury duties. this means you can't afford day care and have no other friends or family to watch your child.
Another reason you can actually get out of jury duty is if you have become severely ill and can prove this by a doctors excuse stating you are to ill to travel and that you are on medication preventing you from traveling. If you take medications such as oxygen and have trouble breathing this will eliminate you from jury duty.
If a person is in school or college and has test or exams to take usually these people are excused. You may need to show up at your summons and explain your in school or college and they'll let you off.
Another reason you can use to get out of jury duty is the fact you know someone in the court room. Or when ask questions about the upcoming case if you answer you think you know the person involved in more likelihood you will be excused.
If you let them know you have no transportation and know means of getting back and forth to court you'll be excused as well. There are several reasons you can give to get out of jury duty such as your having an emotional time because you are going through a very difficult divorce. I personally would not pick someone who is having troubles in their own life.
You may also want to suggest your family is in law and you know about law like the back of your hand. They usually excuse you from jury duty then. Also if you are a police officer or doctor or lawyer or fireman they usually make an exception to your career and let you off as well.
Make a very light comment of how your father raised you to be a racist and how you could not choose your own friends growing up but that your excited to be serving your courts and by putting people away like your daddy. This will more than likely get you out of your obligation's.
Last but the most important. If you want out of jury duty then simply do not register to vote. I got so sick of having to go sit at the court house every year for hours and I truly wanted to get selected but never was. When I was ask in one particular occasion what I thought about speeders, and I answered that my first wreck was caused by a woman speeding they said thank you we will not be needing your services.
So the object if your in that situation and need to get out of the jury duty think about what case is being brought before you and respond accordingly. Good Luck.
