The Best Episodes of Man Vs. Wild: Season 3

Discovery Channel's Bear Grylls is Surviving Another Season

Man vs. Wild is in its third season on the Discovery Channel. Bear Grylls is the show's host and adventurer. Season 3 of Man vs. Wild has had Bear in remote regions of Belize, Turkey, and South Dakota.

The Deep South

Bear headed to Louisiana to film this episode of Man vs. Wild. He was dropped by a seaplane into a swamp. The swamp is filled with deadly creatures including alligators, one of which Bear finds and kills. The gator is now dinner and he uses his skin for shelter. Bear also rubs the alligator fat on himself as a mosquito repellant.

In this episode of Man vs. Wild the animals were more of a problem than the terrain. Bear experienced snakes, alligators, and stinging catfish.

Ireland

Bear's next continent was Europe. He was dropped into the Atlantic Ocean in order to make his way along the rocky shores of Ireland.

Once Bear scaled the rocks he ended up in Ireland's moors and bogs. He slipped into a brush covered limestone fissure and needed a hand to get back out. Luckily his cameraman was there to lend assistance.

In the bog, Bear dragged out a dead sheep that was left by a herder. He cooked up some loins, took a bite out of a raw sheep's heart, and then used the skin for a makeshift sleeping bag.

South Dakota

Bear gets dropped in the Black Hills and has to make his way down to the badlands of South Dakota. He is hampered by thunderstorms as soon as he starts this trek.

Hunting for rabbit is natural here. Bear makes a slingshot out of a deer antler. Luckily, his cameraman is watching his back again. He spots a rattlesnake and Bear manages to get dinner from the snake.

The terrain of the badlands was rough. Bear was unsure of his footing on the loose stone so he used picks fashioned from tree branches in order to make his way through the final part of this episode.

Belize

Belize, in Central America, is home to a dense jungle. Bear enters the mountains above the jungle by repelling from the underside of a helicopter because the vegetation is too dense to land.

As Bear is working his way down to the jungle floor he follows a river that is far below slippery rock walls. He slips on his way down and barely grabs the rocks by the tips of his fingers. When Bear finally pulls himself up he has to be "bleeped" out. This just shows how close of a call his slip was.

In this episode of Man vs. Wild Bear Grylls manages to swing across a chasm on a vine, follow a subterranean water-filled cave, encounters a boa constrictor, and rides a crocodile infested river on a homemade raft.

Yukon

Bear parachuted into Canada's Yukon where temperatures can reach negative fifty degrees and there is sunlight twenty-four hours a day. The parachute did not go to waste. He used the parachute as an airbrake in order to slide down a snow covered mountain to the glacier below.

On the glacier, Bear encountered snow covered cracks and holes. He finds himself having to work his way into a crevice in order to get off the glacier.

In this episode, Bear also finds a canoe and demonstrates how to repair the struts, patch holes, and create a paddle. He explored an abandoned mine and had problems when his torch goes out.

Oregon

Bear dropped into Hells Canyon on the Idaho side. Hells Canyon is the deepest river gorge in the United States. He had to make his way down to the Snake River and come out of the canyon on the Oregon side.

In this episode, Bear demonstrated how to use a pole to vault across and down mountains, steady himself on loose rocks, and pole vault across a river. He also went night fishing with a three pronged spear and came up with dinner. Bear demonstrated another useful survival technique, how to boil water in a plastic bottle.

Dominican Republic

Bear jumps into the ocean to start this Man vs. Wild episode. He is keenly aware of great white sharks and hammerhead sharks. He swims to a shipwreck in order to get a good view of the landscape.

On land, he first encounters a desert terrain. There is little water so Bear drinks from a cactus. He eventually crosses into the jungles of the Dominican Republic where he follows a river upstream. Unfortunately he gets caught in a whirlpool with nothing but steep cliffs on either side. Bear has to climb up jungle vines in order get out of the increasingly strong current.

Turkey

Parachuting into Capadocia's mountain range turned out to be trickier than Bear anticipated. There was nowhere to land so he had to aim for a fifty foot lake. His foot also got tangled in the parachute's rigging lines.

Bear ended up making a raft out of his parachute but encountered a steep cliff and waterfall. He fashioned a ladder out of his parachute cords and tree branches in order to scale down the cliff.

Romania

Bear had to drop into the Carpathian Mountains dangling from a helicopter. This mountain range consists of a dense forest that is home to brown bears. Bear encountered a brown bear without incident. This sighting pushes him to make an alarm system out of the string from his rigging line and metal cup containing stones.

In this episode Bear also eats partially digested fruit from bear dung. He also found a short cut through a cave in the mountain. This cave became increasingly narrow and water filled.

Bear's Ultimate Survival Guide

This episode of Man vs. Wild focused on Bear's most tricky moments to prove that having the right survival skills means the difference between life and death. He focused on survival priorities. He showed various ways to get fresh water, protection from the sun, building shelters, starting fires, and hunting.

"Man vs. Wild: Ultimate Survival Guide" also included falls, avalanches, risky repelling, and hanging precariously from cliffs. Of course it also showed how Bear was able to survive all those problems.

Bear Grylls strands himself in remote regions of the world just to prove that you can survive anywhere on earth. He uses regional knowledge to teach his survival techniques.

Never heard of the series, but, boy, this Bear guy sounds awesome! I don't want to watch him eat partially digested fruit, though. No thanks.
