The Best Essential Oils for the Skin

Essential oils can have a variety of healing effects on the skin. Many of them can be used with multiple skin types providing a myriad of uses in cosmetic applications. Cleansing, toning and moisturizing are just a few of the daily uses you can find for essential oils. Whether you are seeking preventative measures or healing properties, essential oils can provide you with natural skin care alternatives that are safe and effective.

Clary Sage

Clary sage is very beneficial in the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles. With its astringent, antiseptic, and anti-bacterial properties, it useful for acne and other blemishes. This essential oil can balance the sebum, or oil, production, which makes it useful in dry or oily skin conditions. You can add just a few drops to a natural moisturizer or toner for maximum benefits.

Geranium

Much like clary sage, geranium can be used for both, oily or dry skin. It can boost circulation and improve elasticity of the skin. Germanium is an excellent choice to combat acne since it can be used in combination skin types for a balancing effect integrated with cleansing and decongestion of the skin.

Lavender

The essential oil of Lavender is great for balancing out skin. It can reduce excess oil production, clear blemishes, and hydrate the skin. Antibacterial and restorative properties make lavender ideal for promoting skin healing with less scarring. Lavender can be incorporated into any or all steps of your skin care regime from cleansing and toning to moisturizing. It is even gentle enough to be used directly on the skin.

Patchouli

The oil of Patchouli is ideal for stimulating the growth of new cells. It is beneficial in preventing scar tissue. Sensitive skin types can use this oil without fear, as it is non-toxic and non-irritating. Patchouli is one of the more expensive oils, but many would attest that the effects are worth the cost.

Tea Tree

Tea tree oil is good for a variety of skin ailments. It can clear up acne with spot treatments, and reduce the reappearance of blemishes due to its anti-microbial action. It has been found to be equally effective as benzoyl peroxide, however, it does not cause side effects such as redness and peeling. Tea tree has extremely beneficial healing properties to reduce scarring on the skin, as well. Some have even called Tea Tree the miracle of skin care.
