The Best Fall Foliage Spots in the Colorado Springs Area

Colorado is known for its beautiful fall season red and yellow aspens. Seeing the spectacular show doesn't mean you have to go high in the mountains. You can take a drive from Colorado Springs, head west and get some of the best photos and videos, without hiking into the high country.

Starting on Hwy 24 the colors start to change as you approach Manitou Springs. From that point you get the beginning of the change, then through the pass, over to Green Mountain Falls, towards Woodland Park, you see the aspens in the distance poking out in yellow and red dots.

From there, you can access many different ways to drive and get your Fall color fix. The most fun I have had going to look at the beautiful colors was on Hwy 67. If you take Hwy 67/24 road to Divide, then head south through Mueller State Park and on over to Victor, Colorado. If you keep going on Hwy 67, you eventually end up on Hwy 50 near Canon City. Colorado Springs is not far from Canon City.

Along the way, there are many great places to stop for photo ops. When you go through Victor and Cripple Creek, you feel as though, you have gone through a time warp. Of course in Cripple Creek, there are Casinos and hotels and great food everywhere. Victor looks like an old west town, only with cars. Both have that small town hospitality and picturesque scenes, that sometimes seem more like paintings, than actual places.

If you are making a mini vacation out of the Fall Foliage quest, Cripple Creek is a great place to stop and rest for the evening. Gambling, gorgeous accommodations and a variety of souvenir opportunities and of course again, the fabulous food. Continuing on bright and early through the rest of the trip allows you to stop and enjoy more of the areas in between.

While making the trek through this scenic Fall wonderland, you have to take a moment to check out Cow Mtn. and Bull Mtn. near Victor. The entire trip, if you go the whole circle takes a few hours, depending on how many times you stop to get that video or picture. You go through so many beautiful areas on this route. The aspens are putting on a great event every year about this time.

This route from Colorado Springs through the mountains and back is a popular attraction each Fall. It is a must see if you love the colors changing and have some time to enjoy Colorado's version.
