The Best Fantasy and Sci-Fi Authors

Alicia Kurth
I'm an avid book reader. But like every one else out there I have a list of favorites. Since I was a child and learned to read I don't ever remember not having a book in my hand. I used to get in trouble in school for reading instead of doing my school work and would always come home from the library with books upon books to read. Now that I'm older and able to pay for my books I don't have to check out my favorites from the library anymore. Here is a list of a few that I highly recommend.

Tamora Pierce

Tamora's books are known for their strong heroines, fantastic plots, realistic characters and their appeal to both young adults and old. Tamora's Tortall and Circle of Magic realms give life to a host of magic and strength as well as fun and heart wrenching moments. Her books almost always come in a series and are always progressing in the worlds she's made. She has believable characters and villains and with the right amount of romance and conflict to make her books an instant hit with just about anyone. My personal favorites center on her Tortal realm and include the Song of the Lioness series, The Immortals Series, The Protector of the Small series, Tricksters Choice, Tricksters Queen and Beka Cooper:Terrier. I always look forward to her books when they hit the shelves.

Jacqueline Carey

Jaquelines books have strong willed characters and are not for the faint of heart. Centering on the world of Terre d'Ange, Carey's books offer a bit of the forbidden to her readers. The Kushiels Legacy books center on Phedre, Joscelin and Imriel, three strong characters who come together in an explosion of love, danger, tragedy and willpower that even the gods of the book are hard put to deny. With these characters one find sthemselves enjoying the good times and grieving over the sorrows the characters experience, as well as the sensual moments that lead toward the darker sides of sexuality. Careys books while in depth offer the reader an unforgettable ride in the meaning of "Love as Thou Wilt"

Elizabeth Haydon

Elizabeth is the author of The Symphony of Ages series. Following the lives of Rhapsody, Ashe, Achmed and Grunthor, these books offer a different insight into a fantasy realm filled with music, love, betrayal and the never ending struggle of good vs. evil. A strong solid plotline allows the reader to immerse themselves into a world of monsters learning to be men, a woman who has the ability to see the good in everything while still being strong enough to destroy that which needs be, and a descendant of a great dragon who looses and finds his greatest treasure. These books give the reader the opportunity to enjoy the music that is the life around us.

Sara Douglass

I have only read Sara's Wayfarer Redemption series. Despite that, I believe this woman is in the top of her class with strong characters, great plot lines, heart wrenching moments and a tale to leave anyone craving more.

Laurell K. Hamilton

Renowned author Laurell K. Hamilton is known for her gritty and seductive Anita Blake novels. Laurell is an awesome Sci-fi/fantasy author who isn't afraid to show us how the darker side of life could be if the things that go bump in the night were actually real. She also writes the Merry Gentry novels who is a faerie princess. Both series are face paced, seductive, and not for light readers. These books beg to be read after you gt your hands on the first one.

Kim Harrison

For any supernatural buff Kim's book are a must. Her character Rachel Morgan is an immediate hit in her Hollows Series, a strong independent woman who wants nothing more than to do the right thing and not have people mad at her for making mistakes like acquiring a few more demon marks. Also fast paced with a few seductive bits in them, these books come highly recommended.

These are just a few of the authors I recommend in the Fantasy/Sci-Fi area and there will be plenty more to come
