Wichita has seven YMCA locations. The YMCA offers full-service fitness facilities, over 8,000 fitness classes, and free personal trainers who will help you develop a fitness program. In addition to fitness classes, the YMCA also offers life skills classes that will help you quit smoking, eat healthier, and manage stress. Monthly membership rates run between $18 and $40, and the YMCA offers reduced rates to certain families and individuals through its financial aid program
Blackhawk Fitness opened in Wichita in 2007. Blackhawk is owned and operated by a military member, and offers military-type fitness instruction. Blackhawk's Boot Camp training sessions are open-ended and you can join at any time. Classes start at around $4 each. Blackhawk also offers Martial Arts training for those who want to learn self-defense while getting in shape.
Fitness2000 offers facilities in two different locations in Wichita. Fitness2000 has a Co-ed location at 1046 South Oliver that is open 24 hours a day. This location also features a nursery for the little ones, and family night in the pool. For the ladies, Fitness2000 has a ladies-only location at 2234 South Oliver. While this location is not open 24 hours, they do offer evening and weekend hours, and a nursery for the kids.
Another ladies-only fitness option in the Wichita area is Curves. Curves offers 19 locations in the greater Wichita area. Membership is around $20 per month. Curves' workouts run on a circuit set to music. You do each machine for 30 seconds, then have a rest period of jogging or stretching for 30 minutes. Curves recommends that you work out three times per week, making their membership well worth the cost.
Finally, Genesis Health Clubs offers four locations in Wichita. Genesis offers cardio and weight training equipment, personal trainers and group fitness instruction. Genesis also offers sports facilities, child care and yoga and pilates studios. If you are undecided, you can take advantage of a free 10-day pass at Genesis by filling out the contact form located on their website.
Even though the weather is cold and nasty, you can still stay fit and ready for summer.
