The Best Florida Gators Football Teams in School History
Which Florida Gators Teams Were the Most Successful Teams of All Time?
3. 1996 Florida Gators
Steve Spurrier head coached the 1996 squad, and this team was absolutely stellar. There were nine games where the Gators put up 45 or more points, and their only loss that year came to a great Florida State team, ranked #2 at the time. QB Danny Wuerffel was a standout quarterback and ended up winning the Heisman Trophy that year. The team had two Fred Biletnikoff Award finalists and semi-finalists in Reidel Anthony and Ike Hilliard. In addition, DB Lawrence Wright won the Jim Thorpe Award, awarded to the best defensive back in all of college football. The team went 12-1 (9-0 SEC), and won the Sugar Bowl, 52-20, against FSU. As National Champions, they ended at #1 in the Coaches and AP Polls.
2. 2008 Florida Gators
Head Coach Urban Meyer coached the 2008 squad, and they look to be one of college football's best teams out of the entire decade. Led by inspiring, Heisman Award winning quarterback Tim Tebow, this team battled it's way to an awesome 12-1 (7-1 SEC) record, with their only loss coming to a mediocre Ole Miss team.
1. 2006 Florida Gators
The 2006 squad was the Gators best squad ever. Also led by Head Coach Urban Meyer, the Gators were widely considered to have the toughest schedule in all of college football. They battled to a hard-earned 13-1 (8-1 SEC) record, with their only loss coming to the Auburn Tigers. QBs Chris Leak and Tim Tebow teamed up to create a formidable duo under center for the Gators, and their defense was arguably the best out of any college football team in 2006. All in all, these Gators were the most successful Gators football team of all time.

Post a CommentMy vote would be for the 1984 Florida Gators. After Galen Hall took over the reigns, he was finally able to do something big with all that talent they had, especially on defense.
I would say that 1983-1985 Florida is a very underated part of Gators history.
