The Best Food Trends for Families of 2011

Mrs. Renee

One thing that people seem to not be able to get enough of and that's food. Each year the food trends tend to change. This year is no different but it seems that more, and more people were trying to eat healthier. Some families were also looking for food that would help them trim their budgets. Below you will find five of the top food trends for families that we have seen in 2011.

Going all natural

Many families are choosing to go all natural, since it is cheaper, safer, and healthier. Some had their own gardens during the summer months, and chose to preserve their extra vegetables. There are plenty of vegetables, and fruits that can be frozen or preserved in cans. Now that we are in the Fall season many families have shelves full of preserved fruit, and homemade tomato sauce. This is one trend that many feel will probably carry over into 2012.

There's a App for that

During 2011 it seems that everyone is addicted to the phone apps. There really seems to be an app for everything that you can think. When it comes to food there are apps to help you with your grocery list, and apps to help you cook a great meal. One of the biggest trends this year has been to use your phone to help you find a recipe, or to stick to your food budget. This is yet another trend that will probably grow in 2012.

Eat fresh daily

Another big food trend of 2011 is to eat something fresh everyday. Shows like the Dr. Oz show, spent most of the year trying to get people to eat a healthier diet. Many families are now finding that it is beneficial for them to eat at least one healthy ingredient per day. Whether it is a fresh piece of fruit, or fresh vegetables.

Trying something different

Some families have also chosen to branch out and try new things. Food network always offers a nice variety of meals from different cultures. More and more families have been trying different types of food, than what they are used to in their culture. As a result there are a lot of new restaurants that have popped up around the country highlighting some of the many foods from different cultures.

Roof top and indoor gardens

This year many people lost their houses, and some just can not afford to have a home with a yard for gardening. As a result this year there have been a lot of rooftop gardens that have popped up in cities around the country, especially in the New York City area. Many who live in apartments have even found ways to make indoor gardens work as well.
