The Best Foreign Films that Exist!

My Three Favorite Foreign Films

Znuage
I am a huge foreign film lover and have seen a wide range of films. Among the many favorites, there are three that stands out every time i try to think of what films that i would suggest to anybody who thinks somewhat similar as I do. The three films are listed below:

1) Tin Drum
Tin Drum, directed by Volker Schilondorff, is a German film about a three years old Oskar Matzerath who witnesses the world around him becoming something that he dislikes. To revolt, on his third birthday, Oskar promises himself to never grow another inch for the rest of his life! For many years to come, Oskar beats his tin drum in protest and if one tries to take the drum away, he screams a piercing scream that is capable of breaking glass within seconds.

We get to watch Oskar as he explores sexuality, war, and freedom. The very interesting thing about this film is the actor who played Oskar, David Bennent, actually stopped growing as well! Yet once he finished his teenage years, he started to grow again! Very fascinating film, a must see!

2) Brother of Sleep
Brother of Sleep, directed by Joseph Vilsmaierm, is a German film about a man, Elias Alder, who lives during the turn of the 19th Century. Elias is born with a gift for music which frightens and amazes the villagers. Peter, his only friend spends nights with Elias at the church where Elias produces mind-blowing pieces on the church organ.

Once Peter's sister, Elsbeth, is born, Elias is drawn to this lake where he experiences the sounds of the universe and comes out feeling spiritually bonded to Elsbeth and the sounds of the world around him. We get to watch the three grow up, passionately dedicated to each other and filled with jealousy in one way or another. This tale is unforgettable!

3) Old Boy
Old Boy, directed by Chanwook Park, a Korean film about an ordinary man named Oh Dae-su gets kidnaped right in front of his house. He later wakes up to find himself locked in a room without an explanation as to why. He is kept in this room for years, while provided food and a television so he can keep up with the world. He learns by watching the news, that his wife was murdered and the police suspects that Dae-su is the killer. He attempts to commit suicide but failed.

As time passes, he goes over all the people that he may have hurt and wondering who he hurt enough to in turn want to hurt Dae-su by doing this to him. Many years later, his room gets filled up with sleeping gas, making Dae-su pass out. As he wakes up, he realizes he has been released with a wallet filled with cash and a mobile phone. The phone rings and a strange man speaks, asking him to figure out why he was imprisoned. This story is a fantastic mystery and thriller!

These are my top three favorite foreign films and I highly suggest that you watch them. If you have a taste for the bizarre, these will be a perfect fit!
