The Best Free Android Apps

R. M. Dubuc
The number of applications available for Android phones can be overwhelming to the first time owner of an Android phone. As a new Android user, and new user to smartphones, I was amazed by all the free Android applications available at the click of a button in the Android Marketplace. Google has created a vast library of Android apps which will appeal to the everyday social networker and professional alike.

After trying several Android apps, the following Android apps are among the best of the free Android apps available to all Android users in the Marketplace.

Google Maps

Google Maps is one of the best free Android apps available to all users of Android phones. The GPS feature is already on the Android phone, allowing users to see exactly where they are on the Google map, as well as track their driving direction. Maps, driving routes and directions, and search features are all included on the Google Maps app. This application is so useful that I have not needed to use the car GPS system when using the Google Maps app.

iMusic

The iMusic app for Android phones is excellent for those who decide to use their Android as a substitute iPod. The number of songs that can be searched and downloaded to the Android seems endless. Free downloadable songs can be searched by artist or song title or viewed through the many categories set up to browse on IMusic. Once songs have been selected and downloaded the music can be saved to play on the Music app for Android phones. The iMusic app makes pay-per-song downloads seem expensive when all the songs at IMusic can be downloaded for free. Downloaded songs can then be shuffled or set to play lists on the Music app feature on the Android.

Photobucket

Photobucket for Android is an excellent app for those who like to use their Android for photos. Photos can be directly downloaded to Photobucket in seconds. Photobucket allows users to store photos online and access photos on the internet to post to other websites or forward for processing.

The Photobucket app is easy to add to the Android and easy to use. It is one of the best photo apps available for the Android and makes downloading photos a quick and simple process, even for new users.

Facebook

The Facebook app comes ready to use in most Android phones. Users of the Facebook app can link to their Facebook accounts in a matter of seconds, download photos directly to Facebook, track friends statuses, receive comment or update alerts, and a number of other fun features. The Facebook app for Android even allows users to respond to Facebook emails and retrieve friends' current Facebook user photos to align with their Android contact list. When a Facebook friend changes their homepage photo, the Facebook app automatically updates the change on your Android phone. This free Facebook app is a must-have for anyone who uses Facebook regularly.

Horoscopes and Tarot

Astrology buffs will love the Horoscopes and Tarot app available free on Android phones. One touch of the icon button on your Android phone will link you to a daily horoscope. Weekly and love horoscopes can also be accessed throught the Horoscope and Tarot app. Tarot card fans can do quick Tarot readings right on their Android through the Tarot feature of the application.

Kayak

The popular online website, Kayak, can be downloaded as an Android app for those who want to track travel rates for airline flights, hotels, and other travel information. This app makes it easy to simply press the Kayak icon on your Android phone and keep track of airfares at the touch of a button.

My Days

My Days is one of the most unique Android apps available for women. This application sets up a calendar on your Android phone to track ovulation, monthly cycles, and expected date for your next monthly cycle. The application allows women to program any changes in their cycle and visually see the exact dates ovulation or fertility is the hightest.

The Facebook app is okay, but it's a huge space waster. Bloo is a good alternative for people who don't want to want a lot of apps and therefore don't want to allocate 9MB to just one app.
