Sewing: There are several sewing patterns available on "How Stuff Works".com. There are several other types of media used, as well as sewing, but there are 3 different sewing patterns for sewn "Christmas stockings." One of the patterns for a sewn Christmas stocking is designed to be fashioned out of suede! This pattern resembles an old-fashioned granny boot, and is quite cute. There is also a version of the suede Christmas stocking that looks like a male cowboy boot. There are even some for the kids to make and decorate. There is another web site at "Free Quilt. com". This site has a pattern in PDF format for a basic stocking pattern, and directions that could very easily allow the stocking to be decorated in any motif that could be imagined. The exact link to the PDF is: "Husqvarna" for the directions of this basic Christmas stocking. "Purple Kitty" has a pattern for a striking, nontraditional color, snowflake designed Christmas stocking to sew, this stocking appears to be lined. "C & F craft and fabric links".com has another great Christmas stocking pattern available for those who enjoy sewing.
Knitting: There are many different knitting patterns available for the beginning to advanced knitters available free online. Some of these patterns are especially for beginners, some are more difficult, and more involved for the more advanced knitter. One of the websites is How Stuff Works.com, as above, there are two different knit Christmas stocking patterns. One is felted and one is not. These are very unique. One is specifically for beginners and others would not suspect the crafter is a beginner. If knitting is the desired method to craft a stocking, another pattern for a Christmas stocking that can be knit is from "Heart Land Ranch." Another knit stocking is from "smart yarn".com. This stocking has decorations knit onto the outside of the Stocking and looks rather smart. "Jean Greenhowe's" website also has several holiday ideas, along with mini Christmas stocking patterns in several motifs. These are tiny stockings and look like scrap yarn could be used, and could be done in any number of colors and patterns. This site also has many other Christmas stocking patterns, and other holiday patterns, as well. "Jean Greenhowe's" website also has many other free patterns on her website which can be accessed through her home page. "Purple Kitty" has a pattern for a Christmas stocking that is knitted as well, however, this of a more traditional motif than that of the sewn pattern on the same website.

"Berroco" has a very modern Christmas stocking pattern, complete with marabu, for that 'grown up' look. Any teenage girl would love to get a pair of these for christmas. There are are mini stocking patterns and regular size patterns for Christmas stockings to crochet . Another site that seems to have many choices is "Crochet Memories," this site has many different varieties. The page for the regular size Christmas stocking from "Crochet Memories" is available as well. The mini stocking is not as hard as some may be but this site is easy to get to as well. "Heartland Ranch" has a nice pattern, which seems like it would be about of medium skill to complete, there are not many hard stitches to do in it. "Christmas Craft Freebies" has many links to many nice patterns for Christmas stockings, some of these are a mini stocking that is really well done, and another link that is great is "Craft Town".com, a crafters resource, this site has a great stocking pattern as well that is traditional. There is also a link to another site that has many patterns, called "Home in Reach".com, this site has tons of patterns and links to patterns for Christmas stockings and many other items, that any crochet guru would love. "Crochet Pattern Central" has many links to different patterns of all types for Christmas stockings, and other items as well. There is another "Berroco" pattern page with 3 different, traditional, old fashioned Christmas stocking patterns. A traditional holly Christmas stocking from this site is another great pattern as is the waiting for Santa trio. More stocking patterns are available at "Purple Kitty".com.
These Websites, and many more, are available to obtain free patterns to craft homemade Christmas stockings. In addition, many of these websites have items available for purchase. Such items as other patterns, and complete kits to make Christmas stockings and other crafts of every sort imaginable. There are free patterns for other types of Christmas items as well, such as ornaments for the Christmas tree, table runners or placemats. When making Christmas craft items, the only limits to them, are the limits of the crafter's imagination.
