The Best Freshman Dorms at Georgia Tech

Many entering freshman at the Georgia Institute of Technology do not know what dorm to choose. They're are many options and practically everyone you ask will tell you something different. Also, there is the constant debate of East vs. West campus and which is the best. With so many options to choose from it often comes down to a last minute decision.

East Vs. West Campus Debate

The first major thing to consider when choosing where to live is whether to live on east campus or west campus. Each has its own set of pros and cons and neither is a horrible place to live. East campus has Brittain dining hall and west campus has Woodruff dining hall. East campus is conveniently located next to the stadium and most of the fraternities and sororities. West campus is closer to the Campus Recreational Center and even has its own general store. East campus has a more city feeling because the dorms are so close to skyscrapers and highways. It all comes down to what your interests are and what matters to you. If your going to rush your first year and join a fraternity or sorority then choose east campus. If your constantly going to be using the Campus Recreational Center to train then choose West campus. Personally I prefer east campus to west, but thats just because I liked being near the stadium on game days.

East Campus Freshman Dorms

The all male dorms on east campus are Glenn, Smith, and Towers. Glenn and Towers are pretty much similar to each other in size. Since they are alike they often have competitions against each other. Smith is the biggest all male dorm and has its own workout room. While this seems nice, the workout equipment is old and in some cases even rusted. The all female dorms are Brown, Cloudman, and Harrison. Also there is an honors dorm right next to Smith dorm which is coed by floor. Also to walk to most freshman classes students must walk up the dreaded freshman hill.

West Campus Freshman Dorms

Most if not all of west campus freshman dorms are coed by floor. These are Caldwell, Fitten, Folk, Freeman, and Montag. These are all conveniently located next to the Campus Recreational Center but are a bit farther from most freshman classes. Georgia Tech does have a fleet of buses so this should pose no problem to most students.
