Mount Vernon Stable and Saloon
This restaurant and bar is known for being mostly an alternative bar. But at the Mount Vernon Stable and Saloon, everyone is still welcome, even kids during the daytime. The food is excellent, with the rack of spicy, smoky sauced ribs being well-known and quite popular in the town. The kitchen serves a crab soup of the day, they do a brunch that is wonderful, and the kitchen stays open until midnight. The atmosphere of the bar is interesting-a boars head looks over the customers, gargoyles are located throughout the building, and if thats not enough, look up at the ceiling! Stone coffins hang all around. There is a fully stocked bar with a huge selection of alcoholic beverages and beer. For more information, check them out at 909 N. Charles Street, or call them at 410-685-7427.
Grand Central
Grand Central is made up of different floors that interconnect to make a truly unique club and bar. The main part of the place is what was the "original" Central Station Pub, which includes pool tables and an outside patio arrangement to sit in when it's warm. Then there is the upstairs Video Bar. The Video Bar is not as big and has a darker personality, yet is great for some quiet conversation and lounging about. Want to dance? Stop in at Grand Central from Wednesday through Sunday and dance to the latest hits from a DJ spinning them out. A leather and Levi bar Spike is set over the Dance club for the more unique scene. The DJ's vary, there are weekly karaoke nights, and many different musical performances. Grand Central is known to be the "biggest" gay entertainment center whatever day you show up. See their website at www.centralstationpup.com, or stop in at 1001-1003 N. Charles street. Call at 410-752-7133.
Club Phoenix
Club Phoenix was formerly known as The Allegro and is not as well-established as its counterparts around town. Yet, they do have their own bit of following. Dance under a disco ball and multi-colored lights. Check out the Greek-style statue as you dance. Not in the mood to groove? Play a game of pool or throw a few darts. Club Phoenix is known for being "Home of the 12 oz. Cocktail" so be sure to try one if you stop in. There are events held there that include "Miss Gay Maryland in Review" and a Gay.com night once a month. Be sure to check out Club Phoenix if you are in town. You won't be disappointed!
