The Best Gear for Young Dirt Bike Riders

Dirt bike riding is an exciting and fun sport. Combine the pleasure of riding a dirt bike with the thrill of racing in a motorcross race and you will have most kids hooked. But the sport also holds a high element of danger if the proper gear and protection are not used. So what is some of the gear and protection needed for dirt bike riding?

First and foremost, a helmet should always be used by anyone riding a motorcycle. If you wreck and your head strikes the ground or some other object, the blunt force can cause serious or fatal brain damage. A helmet can protect your head from such injuries. An approved helmet will have the letters DOT in plain view somewhere on the helmet. That means the helmet has been approved by the Department of Transportation to provide protection in the event of an accident.

You will find many different brands, types, and styles of helmets. For dirt bike riding, a full face helmet is needed. Many different companies do manufacture excellent helmets. Bell Helmets are among the best. The Bell SC-R Vector is a full face helmet available in several colors. This helmet is an excellent choice for dirt bike riders. The price is reasonable, only about one hundred dollars. It is strong and also has a goood ventilation system so the rider can breathe. Not only that, the liner is removable and washable. That is a great choice when it comes to riding dirt bikes.

The next most important piece of equipment for the serious young motorcycle rider is a chest protector. This item does exactly what it it says. It protects the chest and those important organs beneath the rib cage from serious injuries. Chest protectors are made of molded plastic. One such protector, the O'Neal Racing Youth Hammer Graphic Chest Protector, is priced very reasonable at only between fifty and sixty dollars. It offers protection for the chest as well as for the upper arms and shoulders. It comes is several colors and two sizes, small and large. This protector looks good and does the job it was designed for.

Boots are also a vital part of the serious dirt bike rider's gear. Good boots are essential to protect the delicate bones in the lower part of the leg and ankle. My sons have always preferred Fox Racing boots. Fox has been well known for great dirt bike apparel and gear for quite a while. The Fox Racing Youth Comp 5 boots are a great example of the type of boot needed by young riders. This boot has easier locking buckles for kids in a hurry to get on that bike. It comes in basic black or white and in various sizes. The boot looks really good and is not as stiff as some boots. At one hundred and thirty dollars, these boots offer style and protection for your young riders.

Of course, there are many other items that a dirt bike rider needs, as I am sure your young rider will tell you often. However, the three items above are the ones you should pay the most attention to. Protection for the head, chest and legs are vital in dirt bike riding and the sport of motorcross riding. However, don't expect to end your shopping with those items. Your rider will also need goggles, gloves, a jersey, and riding pants. You will be amazed when you start checking out all the gear that comes with dirt bike riding. Just make sure they wear that helmet, the chest protector and the boots as they go racing off.
