#1: Game Stop Sure, he likes to play video games, but what kind? Even if you know he likes the shoot-em-up games, there are so many options available that it might be difficult for you to choose. I get lost in a video game store, and would rather let my husband choose his own games. Get your guy a gift card from GameStop, and he'll be able to browse the store himself.
#2: ThinkGeek.com Channel his geekiness by getting him a gift certificate to ThinkGeek.com. Star Trek cologne? Check. A Dot Matrix wallet? They've got it. A Centurion Ring? It's on sale! Give your guy a gift to this wacky website, and he won't be able to hide his excitement. Seriously. Just watch him as he "oohs" and "aahs" about the Super Mario Chess Set.
#3: Amazon Amazon will allow him to choose from thousands of electronics, MP3 files, cell phones, software, and watches. This is a good choice for the guy who has everything, or for the guy you might not know very well.
#4: Books-a-Million Of course, a gift card to a bookstore can always come in handy, as your guy can choose from hundreds of different titles in categories such as fiction, sci-fi, computers, and technology. Books-a-Million also has magazines, including several gamer, computer-user (including Linux, Apple, and Windows-based), and photography magazines for him to choose from.
#5: Threadless Tees I know, you might not want to buy clothes for your guy. However, he can choose from fun t-shirts from the Threadless Tees company. Gift certificates start at $25 so he can order a t-shirt and have enough money for shipping, which comes in handy. Threadless Tees carries shirts in a number of ever-changing styles, ranging from art prints to shirts with clever slogans. Some shirts are even on sale for $9, so he might be able to get more than one!
#6: Legos I know, you might be thinking "Legos?" Yes, legos. Face it, we never really grow up completely. There are toys and figures from our childhood that we still collect, and Legos caters to the inner nerdy kid. There are Star Wars attack cruisers, battleships, aerial defense units, and Yoda magnets. Not only will he pick his own favorite themed set, but he gets to build it too! Bonus!
Many of these gift cards are available by mail and by e-card. Consider adding enough money for shipping and taxes for online purchases, as you won't want your guy to have to pay extra for their gift. By the way, if you browse these websites and channel your inner-nerd, don't be embarrassed. It's ok.
