The Best Green Kitchen Design Ideas

Jim Posey
Once you decide to renovate your kitchen there are tons of concepts to play around with. There are a lot of cheap design ideas that you can use for your kitchen without worrying about breaking the bank. It has become increasingly important for people to incorporate environmentally friendly ideas into their kitchen design. This is great for the environment and you'll see that it is also helpful for your bank account.

The green movement requires you to recycle the old, find uses for things that may have fallen out of trends or have limited use. This applies to your kitchen design as well. Look at the items that you have been thinking about throwing out and if you can't use them artistically then donate them to the Salvation Army or to a used furniture store. Someone else will be able to use these items and prolong the time till they are dumped in a landfill.

Paint

When painting pay close attention to what brands you chose. Some types of paint are better for the environment than others. Many types of paints have harmful chemicals that end up hurting the environment and possibly your health. A good thing to look for to make sure that you are buying paint that has low or no volatile organic compounds or VOC. If you can afford VOC free paint you will have a much greener kitchen and a much healthier living environment for you and your family.

Cabinets

Cabinets are a big part of any kitchen design they are also the most expensive. Luckily there are tons of green choices to choose from when choosing cabinets. As a general rule if you go with straw board, real wood, or wheat board your making your kitchen more ecologically friendly. What you want to avoid is adhesives that are not environmentally friendly and most of the time these adhesives are found in pressed board.

Counter tops

If you are planning to install new counter tops then consider making it recycled counter tops. Don't be fooled by the title "recycled" into thinking these are shoddy products however. Recycled counter tops are constructed from wood pulp from maintained forests and recycled paper. This mixture has proven so strong that it is used in the construction of skateboard ramps and even in the aerospace industry.

There are so many different ways you can incorporate green kitchen design into your new remodel. Fortunately, you will not have to choose between helping the environment and choosing durable products. Most green products can actually be more dependable than their polluting counter parts.
