Exercise Inc.
With locations in Brownsburg, Avon, and Zionsville, Exercise Inc. may be a bit out of the way for some Indianapolis residents, but the drive will be well worth it once you've discovered this hidden gem among Indy's gyms. Unlike most commercial gyms and personal trainers, Exercise Inc. puts forth a consistent philosophy to becoming and staying fit, rather than subjecting its clients to a litany of bomb and blitz routines that have little rhyme or reason. Indeed, Exercise Inc.'s programs are based on sound fundamentals of exercise science, which flow more generally from medical science, and thus align with the true functions and needs of the human body. Far from being esoteric theoretical concepts, these principles have led to great success for the clients at Exercise Inc., and these successes have been achieved with surprisingly little overall training time. The no-nonsense approach, coupled with a serious, private environment, make this the perfect place for people who really value the well-being enhancements that can be had from the application of proper exercise.
The National Institute for Fitness
The NIFS fitness facility is a different kind of "gym", because it is really an outcropping of a world-class research institute. Nestled in the IUPUI campus and medical community, NIFS provides members access to wonderful workout facilities and a host of programs led by highly qualified professionals. This gym is a great place to workout if you want access to the best facilities and fitness/health professionals.
Powerhouse Gym
Powerhouse Gym is, of course, a national chain, but it makes this list as Indy's entry into the world of traditional fitness and bodybuilding gyms. Because of it's nationwide reach and huge resources, your likely to find any kind of equipment that you could possibly want at Powerhouse, along with staff to help you use that equipment. If you're looking for a fairly hardcore lifting environment with lots of equipment, you won't do much better than this.
Whatever your fitness goals, Indianapolis has several good gyms that can meet your needs. Without a doubt, though, the ones listed here are among the very best in the city. So pick your poison and get moving!
