SOUNDTRACKS
While soundtracks are excellent within the movie, the clips are often not long enough to satisfy Halloween song hunger. But there are some, particularly those composed by Charlie Clouser. Clouser has a history with Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails. Here are some of his best compositions that are good enough to use as Halloween songs.
1.Charlie Clouser- Resident Evil: Extinction
2.Charlie Clouser-Saw III. When searching for this soundtrack, get the one that includes the original score which you can find on iTunes.
LastFM will also provide you with some good listening if you'd like to first sample his music.
HORROR SOUNDSCAPES
There have been plenty of cheesy Halloween songs found under this category, so when you begin exploring, have your eyes peeled for the good ones. The list below will help you separate the silliness from the real Halloween song treats.
1.Terror Syndicate's The Dark Soundscapes. These make excellent Halloween songs. There are several CDs available, check out the website-terrorsyndicate.com
2.Raw Fear's Halloween Horror Music. This has both spooky songs and horror soundscapes.
3."The Ultimate Scary Sounds and Music for Your Halloween Bash" is how Monster's Halloween Party. Some versions contain lame bonus tracks, but iTunes will offer you some unadulterated tracks which include all the Halloween songs you could want!
THE CLASSICS
This type of music has one of the widest selections for Halloween song use. Here are some of the more Halloween-y of the bunch.
1.Chopin--funeral March from Sonata No. 2 in Bb Minor
2.Bach--Toccata and Fugue in D minor
3.Devil's Dance -- John Williams (famous thanks to Harry Potter and Star Wars)
4.Fright Night: Music That Goes Bump in the Night-this is the #1 CD available. It includes many of the songs above, and even more goodies. Make sure to purchase the one released by Song in 2006-available on Rhapsody and iTunes-because it track number is doubled.
MODERNIST DISSONANT MUSIC
This type of music has been used in many horror movies-mostly because it's a bit unsettling for most people to listen to. This type of music is what was used in Psycho's famous shower scene. Great Halloween songs that fall into this category include:
1.George Crumb's Black Angels
2.Bela Bartok-Adagio. This song can be found on the CD "Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta".
Enjoy yourself this Halloween with some genuinely freaky Halloween songs that are sure to put you in the mood for a scare!
