The Best Hamburger Restaurant in Mancora, Peru

Brandon Dillon
So, you've finally made it to the epic waves of Northern Peru... found an affordable hostel... and had a killer day riding the line.

And now you're hungry.

Fear not; you're in luck. The best hamburger joint in Peru just happens to be situated in Mancora. So, here's the deal: as you likely know, Mancora is a very small town. You can grab a mototaxi (tuk tuk) to just about anywhere you need to go. Depending on the time of day, a ride won't run you between S./2 and S./5 ($0.66 - $1.65)

Find yourself a tuk tuk, and ask to be brought to the Iguana Bar. You can't miss the place, what with the giant sign with a green iguana on it. You'll know you're at the right place if you see the grill steam rising next door...

A hamburger will cost you S./5, and it's worth every penny. The burgers are fresh, cooked on the grill as you watch. Lettuce, tomato and your choice of condiments makes for a great bed for your beef.

And then the magic happens.

On all burgers, they add crispy French fries to give the burger a real crunch. This is what makes the burgers really memorable and incredibly tasty. And, of course, the freshness of the ingredients helps.

There are other foods you can order as well. On a normal night, they'll also be serving anticucho (cow's heart on a skewer) and chorizo (Italian style sausage on a bun). Wash everything down with a cup of Inca Cola, and you're good to go.

Like so many restaurants in Peru, knowing what time the place (which is nameless) is open can be a crap shoot. However, if you're out partying at the beach then the chances of finding the burger joint open go way up. Personally, I've had good luck between 11P and 4A ... and I'm told they are occasionally open during waking hours.

So, if you're in need of some good grub during your vacation to Mancora, Peru then I highly suggest checking this place out. This hamburger restaurant will surely be a memorable experience, even during a memorable trip.
