On November 14th you can attend the 92nd annual Governor's Statehouse Tree Lighting ceremony and festival. The fun starts at 5:30 pm and lasts until 7pm. Admission to this event is free, but nearby parking is not. The Statehouse is located at High Street and State Street in Downtown Columbus, OH. If you need more info, you can call (614) 728 - 2695.
Another local favorite is the Holiday Fantasy of Lights at Alum Creek State Park. It is located at 3615 S. Old State Road in Delaware, Ohio. At the Holiday Fantasy of Lights you get to experience a 1.5 mile drive where you get to see over a million lights on some 100 displays. Some of the light displays even feature animation! Once you finish the drive, stop in the Alum Creek Marina boat house and visit with Santa and help yourself to the free hot chocolate and cookies. The crowd is less during the week, as is the admission price to the Holiday Fantasy of Lights. Admission Monday through Thursday is $10 and weekends are $15. Hours are from 5:30 to 9:30 pm Sundays through Thursdays and until 10:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
The Columbus Zoo always has a beautiful holiday light display. Wildlightsat the Columbus Zoo has been going on for almost 20 years. You will see more than two million lights on more than two hundred displays. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $6 for kids ages 2 to 11 and free for kids under 2. And parking is $3. Hours vary depending on the week, but you can call (614) 645 -3550 for current holiday hours. Don't forget to stop by the ice skating rink before you leave! The zoo is located at 9990 Riverside Drive, Powell, OH 43605.
And although it is not technically in Columbus, the Winter Festival of Lights at the Oglebay Resort is extremely popular with residents of Columbus. Oglebay is just located a short drive away in Wheeling, WV at Rt. 88 N., Wheeling, WV 26003. The Winter Festival of Lights is one of the largest in the nation as it covers over three acres and is a six mile drive. Most people return year after year as new displays are added each year. It runs November 8th through January 6th from dusk until 11pm. And each vehicle is requested to make a one time donation that is good for the entire festival.
