Buying Christmas gifts for your neighbors can be expenisve, especially If there are several neighbors that you want to buy gifts for. If you don't want to spend a fortune and don't want to do any baking, you can still create some inexpensive Christmas gifts for your neighbors. Here are some great inexpensive Christmas gifts to give to your neighbors.

Recipe booklet. Email a few of your neighbors ahead of time and ask them for their favorite recipes. Then use your computer to compile a neighborhood recipe booklet. Print the booklet out and take it to an office supply store to have it spiral bound.

Menu folder. This is a great gift idea that won't cost much money. Purchase a sturdy pocket folder-- the prettier the better (or embellish a plain one). Fill the folder with the most up to date take-out menus from all of your favorite local restaurants. This is a great resource that your neighbor can use throughout the year.

Photo gifts. Online photo sites like Shutetrfly.com and Snapfish.com offer personalized photo gifts at affordable prices. You can create items like personalized mugs, note pads and calendars. You'll need photos of your neighbors for this, so plan ahead and snap photos of your neighbors at neighborhood get- togethers or check out their shared photos on their favorite online photo website.

Inexpensive framed photo. Take a photo of your neighbor's kids and frame it in an inexpensive frame. Your neighbor will love getting a photo they didn't know about and it won't cost much.

Homemade mix CD. If your neighbors like music, create a mix CD of some of their favorite artists. You can't go wrong by putting together a mix of Christmas tunes and dropping it off with a Christmas card a few days before Christmas. You can purchase music to download for as low as 99 cents per song at iTunes (www.itunes.com).

Wine. Most people appreciate good bottle of wine, especially at holiday time, but good wine is often expensive. If you look around, though, there are some decent wines that cost less than $10. Check out websites that feature wine reviews, like 10 Dollar Wine-The Wine Resource for recommendations on the best red and white wines for under 10 dollars. Put a festive bow around the wine bottle or buy a inexpensive wine sack from the dollar store.

Christmas ornament. A beautiful Christmas ornament is a great gift for your neighbor. Check out the selection at stores like Pier 1 and Pottery Barn, where beautiful ornaments can be found for under $10. This is a thoughtful gift that your neighbor will be able to use every year.

Gift basket. Believe it or not, you can create inexpensive gift baskets that your neighbors will love. Look for discounted movie DVDs or books, buy a basket at the dollar store, and add things like hot cocoa packets and popcorn. Another idea is to fill an inexpensive colander with pasta, a jar of sauce and a block of parmesan cheese.

What a great way to create, or enhance, community spirit; and, what better time of year? I like these ideas. The cookbook, or take out menus, especially; very thoughtful.
