I encountered many distraught family members that were tremendously worried about their friend or family member. There were many times that I was on the receiving end of an angry family member because they could not visit someone at a particular time. Considering their frustration and fear, I learned how to take it in stride and still offer support for their stressful time. I did not mind offering them a hug in order to provide them with temporary comfort. If I were experiencing the same thing, I would want someone to do this for me as well.
With the fast paced working environment and always being the center of a busy area, I learned how to multi task correctly. I did not have time to sit back and relax. There was always something going on and I had to keep on top of everything. I loved working with the doctors and nurses in the Emergency Room because soon became apart of my extended family. They could depend on me and I could depend on them. Being the resident problem solver, taught me how to look at everything from all points of view and not just one limited one.
Even though I work as a customer service representative, I can still pull from my work knowledge as an Emergency Room Secretary. It taught me a lot about patience, compassion, and organization. I can fondly look at this former career as a step in the right direction. Working as a customer service representative means that you must be an accurate and quick problem solver. You must also have empathy and knowledge about what you are doing. No matter where my career path will end up in the future, I can proudly say that I was an Emergency Room Secretary with a heart.
