I've always wanted to know what it takes to get a job with Oscar Mayer. To me, motoring the Wienermobile around would be the coolest job ever. Where else could you find a job driving around the country in a giant wiener, spreading joy and good will to everyone by the mere mention of a hot dog? Since this is a job I could really sink my teeth into and do with relish, I decided to check it out, and went online to their web site to get the particulars.
Applicants must have a four year degree, either a BA or BS. There is no deviation from this requirement; I emailed Oscar Mayer, and they confirmed the need for a degree. My incomplete college courses keeps me from obtaining the job.
Of course, another requirement is to be a "people" person. As an ambassador for Oscar Mayer and hot dogs everywhere, you're expected to be friendly, courteous and enthusiastic about hot dogs. Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.
If you are chosen, the position is known as a Hot Dogger. Hot Doggers receive a pay package which includes a competitive salary, benefits, expenses and clothing. Hot Doggers will learn how to drive and maintain the Wienermobile and learn to professionally promote the product. They receive extensive training at "Hot Dog High" in beautiful Madison, Wisconsin.
The downside to this position (if there is one!) is that Oscar Mayer is basically looking for soon-to-be college graduates. Personally, I think a well-seasoned person with a few decades of retail experience (like me!) could cut the mustard just as well as those young college grads. Maybe even moreso!
If you're interested in applying, you have to do so before January 31, so this year's applicants are already in the loop. However, if you're interested for next year, submit your resume to:
The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile Department
Hotdogger Position
910 Mayer Ave.
Madison, WI 53704
Think of it, you, too, could be a minor celebrity driving through the streets of America. Say, if you get the job, could you let me know how it is? I would love to live vicariously through your position.
