The Best Keurig K-Cups for People Who Want a Strong Cup of Coffee

R. M. Dubuc
The first time I went to use my new Keurig coffee system I realized that not all Keurig coffee system K-Cups are as strong as I like my coffee to be. There were so many varieties to choose from, it was a hit and miss challenge to find the best extra bold coffee K-Cups. Many of the Keurig coffee systems have different coffee size settings which will influence the strength of any cup of coffee you brew. The extra bold coffees can be the best choice for those who want a strong cup of coffee in the larger size. After taste testing numerous different coffee K-Cups for Keurig coffee systems, the following brands and types of coffee turned out to be at the top of my list for boldness without extra acidity. If you want a strong, rich, and full-flavored coffee, you may want to order one of the following coffee K-Cup boxes.

Newman's Own Organics

Newman's Own Organics offers one of my favorite extra bold coffee blends for the Keurig coffee system. The Newman's Special Blend Extra Bold tastes like a fresh cup of just ground coffee beans with a kick. This is coffee you can taste and smell, full of aroma and flavor. Newman's Own Special Blend Extra Bold is sold at Costco for about $33 for an 80 pack of K-Cups.

Coffee People

I have to admit that I became a fan of the Coffee People extra bold coffees from the start. The bold Jet Fuel named coffee, Black Tiger, and Wake Up Call promised a strong cup of java. The names were catchy and once I tried a cup in the 10 ounce size, I was hooked. Jet Fuel and Black Tiger seem to be the darkest of the four, with Wake Up Call just slightly less strong. You really can't go wrong putting some Jet Fuel in your Keurig to get a jump start to the day.

Tully's

Tully's brand K-Cups for Keurig coffee systems offer a good cup of coffee overall. The French Roast and Sumatran extra bold blends are dark and rich in flavor. Tully's extra bold coffees do not seem as strong as some of the others in this category but the flavor is fresh and the coffee is definitely more than a medium brew.

Green Mountain Coffee

Green Mountain Coffee offers a number of different extra bold coffee K-Cups to choose from. The favorite among the extra bold coffee K-Cups by Green Mountain Coffee is the 10% Kona Blend Extra Bold. Those familiar with the popular Kona coffee will appreciate this K-Cup. Dark Magic Extra Bold is another darker coffee choice which holds up pretty well to the larger 10 ounce sized Keurig coffee setting. Green Mountain also offers K-Cups in the Kenyan AA Extra Bold, Double Black Diamond Extra Bold, and Extra Bold Expresso Blend Fair Trade Certified Organic.

Emeril's Gourmet Coffee

Emeril's brand has one extra bold coffee for the Keurig coffee system K-Cups, called Big Easy Bold. Compared to the other choices for extra bold coffee this blend is fair to good. On the larger setting, some of the boldness seems to be missing.

Overall Favorites

The top bold coffees from the bold and dark coffee K-Cups both offer a strong blend. Newman's Own Special Blend Extra Bold and Coffee People's Jet Fuel coffee have been my favorites for coffee with a jump start. The Coffee People brand offers a good variety box of their bold coffees for those who aren't sure which bold coffee to choose. Jet Fuel, Black Tiger, Organic, and Wake Up Call varieties are offered in the 24 K-Cup Coffee People box.
