The Best Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas for Kids 2009

Quick Halloween Costume Ideas

Stacy Hensley
Halloween sometimes sneaks up on us. We need to get creative in order to come up with a last minute Halloween costume that is quick and easy to make. Below are 5 Halloween costume ideas that I have used in the past for my kids.

Last Minute Halloween Costume Idea #1-Hobo

Dig out some old clothes that are not worn anymore. Let your child take the clothes outside and rub them around in the dirt. You can cut or rip a couple of holes in the clothes to give them a more ragged look. Have your child find a good sized stick that you can tie a bandanna or old piece of cloth to, for them to carry over their shoulder. Mess up the child's hair and let them get some dirt on their face and hands.

Last Minute Halloween Costume Idea #2-Athlete

If your child plays sports, let them wear there uniform. A lot of kids like dressing up as football players, cheerleaders, or basketball players for Halloween. Dance costumes or band uniforms are also a good idea for last minute Halloween costumes.

Last Minute Halloween Costume Idea #3-Rock Star

Spike or tease their hair and spray it with colored hair spray. You can find the colored hair spray at most department stores or pharmacies around Halloween. Put some outrageous looking makeup on them. Boys can wear torn jeans and a t-shirt. Girls can wear a skirt, leggings and a t-shirt. Accessorize with a belt and some bracelets.

Last Minute Halloween Costume Idea #4-Ghost

A ghost is a great last minute Halloween costume idea. If you have a white sheet, you can make a quick ghost costume. You can cut a hole for your child's head to go through. Or you can put it over their head and cut out the eyes, mouth, and nose. If the sheet is long, you will want to cut enough off the bottom to keep them from walking on it or tripping over it.

Last Minute Halloween Costume Idea #5-Sleepyhead or Baby

This is one of my favorite last minute Halloween costumes. Your child can wear their pajamas and carry a blanket or teddy bear. Add a bottle or pacifier and they can be a baby. Most kids have pajamas. That makes this one very easy, because you don't have to buy or modify anything.

Use your imagination and get creative. Let your child help out. Kids love being able to be involved in the process.
