Kris B
There are many Lego sets designed to appeal to young boys There are hundreds of different Lego sets available, many of which came out this year, so they are brand new! Today, there are so many LEGO themes and sets to choose from, it can be very confusing to pick the right one.

Since it began producing plastic bricks, the LEGO Group has released thousands of play sets themed around various interests, movies and TV shows. These include, but are not limited to: space, robots, pirates, vikings, ninjas, medieval castles, dinosaurs, cities, suburbia, holiday locations, wild west, the Arctic, airports, miners, community, boats, racing cars, trains, motorized LEGO models, Star Wars, Jurassic Park III, Harry Potter, Spider-Man, Batman, SpongeBob SquarePants, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Ferrari, Bionicle and much more. Of course, any one of these would make a great option for your tween, but lets narrow it down to some more specific recommendations. Here are some of the top LEGO building sets in the market today that your tween will enjoy playing with.

1. Star Wars Sets. These sets come straight out of the classic Star Wars movies. First, consider the Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon, Han Solo's famous spaceship. At about 3 feet long, it's the ultimate centerpiece to any Star Wars collection. The Lego Death Star II from Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi is an absolute must for all Lego Star Wars fans and will make an eye catching addition to your Lego collection. The troopers in the LEGO Star Wars line have been some of the best mini figures ever made by LEGO, with a lot of detail and accuracy. If your tween liked the Star Wars Movies, then these sets are a must have!

2. Castle Chess Set. The LEGO Castle Chess Set is a LEGO exclusive, and features 32 chess pieces including 24 mini figures, like wizards, dragons and kings. The Lego Chess Set can be stored in a handy carrying case. The one-piece chess board measures 10 inches by 10 inches. This is an excellent choice because it allows your tween to put the set together, and then use it for learning to play the game of chess. Some may think that chess is too advanced for tweens, but in reality it is a game that can be learned at a young age. It is also a game that helps even young boys develop cognitive skills and planning abilities.

3. Harry Potter Sets. Harry Potter is one of the most popular books available, and LEGO has developed several sets to accommodate that theme. Your tween will love playing for hours with Harry Potter, Ron, and all his friends in Hogwarts Castle, and in other LEGO locations. Harry Potter has become a very popular theme for LEGO Building Sets. These sets also have a great amount of flexibility, extending their use, as well as your child's imagination. There are some great suggestions for alternate builds of the set on the back of each box as well as a picture of how all the sets in the Harry Potter theme can fit together. These Harry Potter sets will give your tween the challenge of building the sets, and extend their enjoyment of the books and movies. These sets are a must have for any Harry fan.

4. Car Sets. If you want to go with something a little more general, consider one of the many LEGO car sets. These sets are typically smaller than some of the others that we have listed above, but they can still be challenging. As these sets are usually more inexpensive, you can purchase a couple of different cars, and stock up your tween's garage.

All of these sets are available directly from the LEGO website (www.lego.com), or from other sources such as Amazon.com. You can also find many of these sets, as well as many more at toy stores such as Toys R Us and Kaybee Toys. Your tween will love to have any of these sets!
