The Best Magazine Subscription Ideas for Mom

Robin Neorr
Sometimes mom is not the easiest person to shop for. As much as you want to buy her a brand new, hip wardrobe, she won't wear it and you can not bring yourself to purchase that fleece jumpsuit she has her eye on. A good compromise is a magazine subscription. It is practical, can be used year round, and she won't embarrass you by wearing it in front of your friends.

When buying a magazine for your mom make sure it is something she will read, not something you would like lying around the house. For example if your mom knows nothing about cars and has no interest, Car and Driver is not the subscription to get her. However if she is an avid crafter, scrapbooking magazine may be right up her ally.

Figure out what speaks to your mom and buy a year long subscription; she is sure to thank you for the next twelve months. If you are stumped, try these ideas:

1. Good Housekeeping - Don't laugh it is a classic and for good reason. The recipes rock and the household advice and product recommendations are sure to get her good housekeeping seal of approval.

2. Crochet! - Easy crochet projects for the mom who is always working on something for you. Sure you might end up with a few more shawls then you need, but mom loves making things for you.

3. Ms. - For the feminist mom who likes to keep current this is a must have magazine. She wants to celebrate her womanhood and learn what Gloria Steinem wished for on her 75th birthday.

4. TV Guide - It's a guilty pleasure, keeping up with what is on TV, your favorite shows and your favorite stars all in a weekly magazine that will keep mom current on plotlines.

5. Everyday with Rachel Ray - Face it mom loves Rachel Ray. She is easy, personable, and whips up thirty minute meals like nobodies business. Her magazine is like getting a monthly letter from your best friend.

6. Do-It-Yourself - the mom that makes over the kitchen in a weekend can grab inspiration from this quarterly gem. It has projects that can be completed in a day or in a weekend. It will inspire mom to do it herself.

7. Yoga Journal - For the Zen mothers this magazine is a staple of their library. Get the latest news in the Yoga world along with new poses and mantras galore.

8. Real Simple - Mom wants to lead a simpler more organized life Real Simple is for her. Practical tips for the simple life, entertaining ideas, and simple recipes.

9. Prevention - Mom likes to stay healthy and Prevention magazine offers her everything from the Flat Belly Diet to anti-aging secrets.

Have fun finding mom the perfect magazine subscription. Just remember to stay true to what she likes, regardless of if you approve or not. The result, on happy mom!

I need to slip this article into one of my daughter's pockets as a hint. I would love a magazine subscription for Christmas.

Excellent suggestions. I have purchased magazine subscriptions as gifts before, and they have always seemed to go over well.
