The martial arts has become a very big part of today's society. You see it in everything from movies, to videos games and even dancing. When it comes to actually studying the martial arts, some styles can actually be better than others. There are some style of martial arts that deal with only weapons and there are other styles that deal with just mimicking animals. In this article, I want to go over and introduce you to some of the best martial arts that I think an individual should study. Let's begin.

Taekwondo

One of the most common styles of martial arts that has been out for generations is Taekwondo. Taekwondo means "the art of the hand and the foot". Taekwondo is mainly a style that uses mainly punches and kicks. They are not very big into using weapons. What makes this such a great style is that it starts off easy, but as you progress in the different belt levels, it becomes harder and harder. Another thing that makes this style so great is that you will actually learn different values that are associated with life. Values like self control, respect, discipline, and a willingness to succeed will be thought while training in this style. These are some of the principles that are found in Taekwondo and are thought daily to those that practice this martial art.

Shotokon

Another common style of martial arts is the Japanese based Shotokon. Shotokon was started by Master Gichin Funakoshi in 1936. The term shoto means "wavy pines" and the word kon means hall. Shotokon is a more aggressive type of martial art and it involves everything. Shotokon involves kicks, punches and a many number of strikes. Shotokon karate is also big into using weapons. The reason why Shotokon is such a great martial art to study is because it is all about discipline. Another reason why Shotokon is such a great style to study is because you will most defiantly learn how to fight. Shotokon holds a lot of open fighting competitions. The competitors in these competitions do not us any gloves and this is full contact. Shotokon karate will teach you how to defend your self against any attacker that comes against you.

Learning the martial arts can be a fun experience and become a great part of your everyday life. You should strive to obtain the values the martial arts teaches. The values of discipline, self control and character will take you a long way in life.
