Actor Jeff Conway died in 2011 with many speculating that it was a drug overdose. However, infamous television doctor, Dr. Drew, came to the man's defense in the media stating it was not caused by a drug overdose. Jeff Conway and Dr. Drew worked together as Jeff cried his way through a season of Dr. Drew's "Celebrity Rehab," show on VH1. Jeff was a familiar face in a lot of spaces on television shows throughout his career, but many are first to point out one of his movie roles as the "legacy" piece for the body of work that was his career. I decided to look into what movies Jeff Conway appeared in, many are features lost in the direct to home video market, but here are the top four standouts as I see them.
4. "Jawbreaker" - This is far from being a "good" movie, about spoiled teen girls who accidentally kill another girl via a prank that involves shoving a jawbreaker into her throat. Jeff Conway played the father to one of the girl characters played by actress Julie Benz. This is exactly a large role, but when an actor is in a movie with loads of other recognizable actors that doesn't hurt the ole resume. Rose McGowan, Rebecca Gayheart, Judy Greer, Tatyana Ali, Pam Grier, PJ Soles, The Donnas, and even Marilyn Manson made appearances in the flick.
3. "Elvira: Mistress Of The Dark" - Elvria is a mega horror hostess icon and this movie has what many successful movies cannot even boats of: a cult following. Well, anything Elvira does I mean to say. Jeff Conway got himself a credit on this movie as "Travis," though I'm not familiar enough with the flick myself to tell you who, what, or how long Travis appeared, if at all.
2. "Grease" - THIS is the movie that most people immediately associate Jeff Conway with. He played the character known as "Kenickie." "Grease" is a musical that defies the odds every year and remains relevant to the fan base. I remember having to endure the movie over and over again as a little kid being babysat by female cousins who were obsessed with the movie. I am betting the majority of folks would have "Grease" listed as the best movie Jeff Conway was ever in, however, I am not a fan of musicals, if there is to be singing it best be coming out of cartoon characters.
1. "Pete's Dragon"- A Walt Disney movie about an orphan boy who befriends a dragon, Jeff Conway played the role of "Willie." This movie was part live action and part animation as the dragon himself was a cartoon dragon. This movie gets top billing because as a kid I was a fan of dinosaurs and dragons were close enough for me, thus I watched "Pete's Dragon," many times and enjoyed it.
