Vegetable oil is bad for you and shortening is very fattening. We hear how good olive oil is and now the new craze is grapeseed oil. But why are these good oils good for us, and are there more of them? Here is a list of the best oils that are out there, for your health, and how you can use them. Most of them are only good for medium heat cooking, but even so, they are heart healthy!

Flax oil is full of omega-3's that help to reduce inflammation, which can aid in the prevention of arthritis and heart disease. It is also said to help ease constipation. Use Flax oil as a salad dressing or mix it into smoothies to make them extra healthy.

Coconut oil is rich in lauric and capric acids which are anti-viral and anti-microbial. This oil is a great use to support immune function. Use coconut oil in baking, replacing the use of butter and shortening.

Olive oil is the highest-percentage of heart-healthy fats in any oils. It is full of antioxidants, which have miraculous anti-cancer benefits. Use olive oil in sauteing and in salad dressings. Try mixing some herbs in it, like garlic and Italian seasonings, for a dip for fresh bread.

Hemp oil is rich in both Omega-3 and -6 fatty acids, gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) and stearidonic acid (SDA), which helps with skin issues, like acne, psoriasis and more. Use Hemp oil in sauteing, marinades and salad dressings.

Walnut oil may help to lower the risk of heart disease. It is rich in antioxidants and contains melatonin, which helps regulate the bodies inner clock. Use walnut oil in baking and stir frying.

Canola oil is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and Omega-6. It is great for grilling and stir frying.

Grapeseed oil is rich in antioxidant vitamin E and omega-6 linoleic acid. Use for medium-heat frying and sauteing.

Avocado oil is full of monounsaturated fats, which help to reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes. It lowers LDL (bad) cholesterol and raises HDL (good) cholesterol. Avocado is the one healthy oil that is great for high heat sauteing, grilling, frying and even searing.
