The Best Options to Cut Your Intake of Calories

Many people think that losing weight will mean making a lot of changes in their eating habits. This can be true, but you can also make a lot of small changes and still lose weight and reach your goals. In order to lose a pound each month, all you need to do is eat 100 less calories each day. That sounds simple, doesn't it? A pound of body fat is equal to approximately 3,500 calories so if you consume 100 less calories each day in a month that has thirty one days, then you have consumed approximately 3,100 less calories for the month or one pound.

Although losing one pound per month is not a lot, you can see that increasing that calorie deficit will increase your weight loss. There are many ways you can find each day to save 100 calories. Let's take a look at breakfast. If you are used to having toast with your breakfast each morning, what can you do to lessen the caloric intake? You can enjoy your toast with jam only instead of butter and jam. If this does not sound appealing to you, you should try this anyway. The chances are that you may not even miss the butter flavor because you will still be enjoying your favorite fruit jam on your toast. If you regularly have cereal each morning with whole milk, try using two percent milk or even non-fat milk.

Many people enjoy eggs for breakfast regularly. One of the best options for enjoying eggs and saving a few calories is to eat poached eggs or hard boiled eggs instead of having them fried or scrambled. Fried eggs and scrambled eggs are cooked in butter or oil which adds calories and fat to your meal. Poaching or hard boiling eggs is done in water only so the only calories you will be consuming are the calories in the egg itself. If you're eating out for breakfast, ask your server if you can substitute fresh fruit for you potato serving. This will also save quite a few calories.

At lunchtime, there are many changes you can make as well to save yourself calories. If you are having a sandwich, choose a low calorie condiment such as mustard instead of mayonnaise. Mayonnaise is full of fat and calories. If you are making a sandwich at home, you may want to have a low fat mayonnaise on hand. To accompany your sandwich, choose a side of low fat cottage cheese or applesauce instead of fries or chips.

Dinner calories can easily be reduced as well. When preparing dinner at home, be sure to use low fat options when possible such as low fat sour cream, low fat milk, and low fat cheese. If you are preparing meat for dinner, you may want to make portions smaller and increase the serving of vegetables. You will be just as full, but will have consumed fewer calories. If you are dining out for dinner, ask your server to put half of your meal in a box right away so that you do not eat too much for dinner. Making small changes will have big impacts to your weight loss goals without leaving you feeling deprived.
