The Best Party Games for Grade-Schoolers

Fun Games for Children Between the Ages of 5 and 8

Parties are celebrations, and games can add to the atmosphere and enjoyment. Grade schoolers enjoy playing games of any kind and respond well when games are suggested. It is a good idea to arrange a mix of action and outdoor games along with some quieter, indoor games.

Indoor Games for Grade-Schooler Parties

Indoor party games are good for parties that fall on a rainy or snowy day. Have a number of these lined up to keep the entertainment flowing.

Pass the parcel is an old favorite that can be made more interesting by adding small chocolate bars between the layers of paper. Alternately, add a piece of paper with a fun instruction. This could be something like 'jump up and down ten times' or 'spin around and say a nursery rhyme'.

Age appropriate quizzes can be great fun at a party. A parent can act as quizmaster and children can be divided into two or three teams. Choose assorted themes and don't make the questions too hard or too simple.

Word games are entertaining for children and create a sense of competitive fun. Choose a theme such as movie star names and sit the children in a circle. The first child chooses a name such as Brad Pitt. The second child must then say a name that begins with the last letter of the previous name. If they don't come up with a name within a certain time frame, they are out of the game.

Outdoor Games for Grade-Schooler Parties

Create a fun form of ten pin bowling by using empty soda bottles and tennis balls or soccer balls. Fill the bottles with different amounts of water or coloured water for a fun effect. The children can be divided into two teams and the players take turns in trying to bowl the bottles over.

Tag is a popular game if there is enough space in the garden. Blob tag is a variation and is sure to add amusement. If a person is tagged, they have to hold on to the tagger. They then run around together and try to tag other children. Don't let the blobs grow bigger than four children.

Treasure hunts are always fun. Print out a list of clues and ask the children to collect a number of items from the garden. These can include things such as a small stone, a grey leaf, a blade of grass and an egg shell. If necessary, some items can be placed around the garden in advance. The first one to bring the required items to the parents is given a clue that leads them to the treasure.

Grade-schooler party games can be the main source of entertainment at a party. Having a selection of these prearranged will keep children busy and the prizes will be much appreciated. Give several prizes out and try to make sure that each child wins something.
