The Best Places to Buy a Pre-Made Thanksgiving Dinner

The Top 3 Places to Buy a Pre Made Thanksgiving Dinner

Ann Siper
Ok, so the days of cooking all day on Thanksgiving is quickly becoming a thing of the past. No one wants to miss hanging out with the family, so they turn to some easy options for ordering in. Which are the best though? There are quite a few choices out there for ordering a precooked Thanksgiving dinner in. Here are some recommendations for some of my favorite companies that prepare a fully cooked meal perfect for Thanksgiving. There may be minimal heating required, but that is nothing compared to washing a raw turnkey and basting it for 6 hours while it cooks!

1. Honey Baked Ham

Ok, Honey Baked Ham is nationwide. If you do not have one in your town, due the small size of your town, you can easily order a fully cooked Thanksgiving dinner with all of the trimmings on their website at www.honeybakedham.com. Now, I only thought that Honey baked Ham made massive hams for extremely large families. I was wrong. They sell everything from ready to eat prime rib to turkey dinners for two. Nothing beats the original Honeybaked ham though. You can buy everything form dinner rolls, side dishes, and dessert on their website an din their stores. I recommend ordering early whether you are purchasing your pre made Thanksgiving dinner online or in the store. Honeybaked Ham is hugely popular due to the awesome products they provide.

2. Omaha Steaks

Ok, everyone knows about this awesome online store for steaks. Their products are extremely high quality and satisfaction is guaranteed. Now, Omaha Steaks sells a lot of other food besides the traditional steaks they are known for. You are not going to find a traditional turkey on the website, but just as the days of cooking all morning are disappearing, so are the days of only serving turkey at Thanksgiving. You can buy a smoked boneless turkey and ham here. Last year I had BBQ ribs at two different homes for Thanksgiving. I did not have the heart to tell either one that the other had thought of the same new take on Thanksgiving dinner.

3. Your Local Grocery Store

Surprisingly enough I have found in almost every city that I live in that you can buy a pre made Thanksgiving dinner at almost any grocery store. Kroger, Publix, and Meijers all serve up everything from the Thanksgiving turkey to the traditional side dishes everyone expects. They carry a full line of desserts and dinner rolls as well. Even if you just buy a pre made Thanksgiving turkey that can save you a lot of time and effort in the kitchen on the big day. Some of the grocery stores will allow your to specify a pick up time, which allows you to control when your Thanksgiving turkey is prepared for you. This is a fabulous optional and easy to prepare for. You can simply place your Thanksgiving dinner order a few weeks ahead of time while you are doing your regular grocery shopping.

www.meijer.com has an entire portion of their website devoted to pre made Thanksgiving turkey dinners. You can order as late as 24 hours before Thanksgiving Day. Now that is awesome!

4. Cajun Turducken

Ok, if you are from the south you have heard of the Turducken. If not, well, here is a quick description for you. A turducken is a turkey, chicken, and duck wrapped together and cooked up southern style. You can buy it with Cajun seasoning, vegetable, and a d stuffing. One of the best websites I have found for buying this pre made Thanksgiving dinner delight is http://www.cajungrocer.com. The turducken will cost you about $65 before shipping and handling. It will feed an army! Now, you might still be unsure about his product so check their website out. The turduckin has been featured on the Food Network as well. This hugely popular pre made Thanksgiving bird(s) does need to be thawed and then heated, so you need to prepare for the thaw time. It does eliminate the need for washing that raw turkey though! No basting either with this pre made Thanksgiving meal. The turducken can also be stuffed with cornbread stuffing and other great fillings, which can work as a pre made Thanksgiving diner side dish. This interesting concept tastes awesome and will definitely get the whole family talking!

Tip: Be sure to order early, this sis a popular pre made Thanksgiving dinner and they do get a ton of orders!

I bought this years meal from Dominicks, the turkey meal and I was very happy with it...Mine was not frozen and it DID say to cook at least 2 hrs to reheat...people need to read the print....I thought it was very good...I really liked the stuffing, tasted homemade...Turkey was good too, not crispy brown, but roasted, I left it in the oven an extra hr and it seemed to turn more brown and did not dry out...I would definately order again.

Looks like Honeybaked Ham isn't celebrating Thanksgiving this year. None of the locations around me are offering the pre-cooked Thanksgiving Dinner this year.

Beware of fully cooked meals!. Several of us (15) decided to get together in an area 3-6 hours from home where we often meet to hike, backpack, canoe and map caves. We called Kroger who said yes indeed, they do have fully cooked Thanksgiving meals. Good, we were staying in small cabins. Imagine our chagrin when we opened up the fully cooked meal box to find everything fully cooked, then FROZEN. Small detail not disclosed. At least this year we weren't all IN TENTS! It took almost three hours rotating things in and out of our small oven. Moral of Story: ASK IF FULLY COOKED MEANS READY TO EAT UPON PICKUP!

Great info, though I'm still going to stick to cooking. (Some people never learn).

In doing my research for local restaurant here in Fort Wayne, Indiana I found out that Cracker Barrel also serves a pre-made dinner, with everything-serves six for 41.96. Just thought I would add that to your great article.
