The Best Places to Eat in South Africa

Jason Ward
Having lived in South Africa for over 3 years, take it from me, this is the best list to find the perfect restaurants.

Spur Steak Ranch

With a western Cowboy and Indian theme this chain of restaurants is the bomb if you are going out with the whole family or just want a heck of a scrumptious meal. From Steaks to huge cheese burgers to a gigantic salad bar, they really have virtually any type of food you could be interested in, not only that but the food is cooked to perfection, it tickles your taste buds and makes you want to come back for more. Spurs is also a great spot for birthdays as the waiters all come together and sing a song for you. For South African standards the food is medium priced, but for American standards it is dirt cheap, but yet tastes better than a whole lot of food we eat over here. If you want a great time at a homely restaurant go to Spurs, you won't have to look far for one as there are about 5 per city all over South Africa.

Mugg and Bean

A traditional restaurant chain great for breakfasts and lunches, it started out as a coffee house but now besides having a vast variety of coffees have some delicious meals as well. From mouthwatering BLT's to delicious Club sandwiches and hot Panini's, this is a great place to come for even if you just want one of their famous muffins, or a slice of their moist, superb chocolate cake. The prices are well within your range, and this place is definitely worth visiting more than once.

Steers

Steers is one of the best fast food chains in South Africa which specialize in grilled burgers and deliciously flavored french fries. A little more costly than other fast food chains such as McDonalds and KFC but when you taste the food you know it is worth it. Not much on their menu but what they do have they make very, very good.

Fontana Roastery

The best place to get chicken in the whole world, NO JOKE!!! Fontana Roastery only serve chicken in their restaurants and let me tell you, it is the best chicken you will ever eat, you can watch as they grill it with their delicious secret recipe marinade and then devour the chicken with hot sauce and freshly baked buns. So if you want to know what chicken to die for tastes like than head down the nearest Fontana Roastery around. There are less locations than some of the other restaurants but there is at least one per city.

I hope this small guide helps you next time you're in South Africa and want to eat really good food.
