The Best Places to Have a First Date in Bethlehem, PA

Susan Ott
First dates can be a lot of fun, but also nerve-wracking as you try to get to know a new person in a romantic setting. Choosing places for a first date that are more casual and fun takes the pressure off of both of you and allows you to get to know each other without a lot of stress. These three date places in Bethlehem, PA are fun, casual and low-stress environments that will allow you to get to know each other so you can get to a second date and beyond.

Casual Date

Whether you want to go out to dinner or just get some drinks, the Bethlehem Brew Works is a casual place to do both. This microbrewery on the corner of Main and Broad Streets in downtown Bethlehem, PA is a fun place to grab a few drinks, share an appetizer of classic bar food or have a delicious meal. The atmosphere is usually filled with people, with the bar area being more noisy, but the dining room the perfect place to have a conversation and relax. It's not fussy or overly quiet, so you can get to know your date without feeling like you're on display. In the warmer months, grab a table out front and people-watch downtown as you enjoy the weather, conversation and great brews.

Sporty Date

If you and your date enjoy the outdoors and being active, then take your date to Sand Island in Bethlehem, PA. This park is connected to The D&L Trail, a footpath perfect for biking, jogging and walking along the Lehigh River. The views are beautiful across the river, and there are many points along the trail that are perfect for a picnic or a break to just sit and talk. If biking and jogging aren't your favorite, Sand Island Park also has tennis courts and places to go fishing in either the Lehigh River, canal or Monocacy Creek. Access to Sand Island is on Lehigh Street, just a short walk from historic Main Street in downtown Bethlehem, PA.

Classic Date

Going to the movies is a great first date for a lot of reasons, but the generic multiplexes that have sprung up across America are less than special. One of the most unique places for a first date in Bethlehem is the The Boyd Theater, a classic, one-screen movie house on Broad Street that's been entertaining locals for more than 80 years. This old-time movie theater features ornate trim and decorations, red upholstered seats and a giant red curtain. The balcony is currently closed for renovations, but The Boyd features first-run movies with a new surround-sound system for the best of both worlds. Tickets are cash only, but the most expensive tickets max out at only $6, which is a great bargain. Tickets go on sale abut 30 minutes before the show for the most recent time slot only. Most shows don't even have previews, and there are never any commercials, so arrive on time for the actual movie. Concessions are sold in the retro lobby; again, bring cash. The Boyd will provide you with a fun, relaxed and unique first date experience that's memorable and classic. And if the movie goes well, there are lots of restaurants downtown within a minute's walk for drinks, dinner or dessert after the show.
