The Best Places for Renting Bicycles in Boston

Nina Nixon
Experience a day in Boston with a combination of sports activity and sightseeing on a rented bicycle.

A decent-quality bicycle is expensive these days. Some can cost more than a used car. Bicycling was the forgotten, but enjoyable sport, but has recently steadily grown in popularity. This pastime has been around since the 1800's. Well, Boston is serious about bicycling. And it is a excellent thing is that there are some wonderfully dedicated companies in the city of Boston that know how to offer a good deal on bicycle rentals. Check out these deals that fit both your bicycle rental requirements and are easy on your budget.

1. Back Bay Bicycles (and Papa Wheelies)

Located at 362 Commonwealth Avenue, Back Bay Bicycles has many different types of bicycles to choose from. For about $35 a day, you can rent a city bicycle. And for $10 more, you can rent a road bike. [1] You can rent a city bicycle for about $125 per week. Or, you can be adventurous and rent a Tandem bicycle rent for about $400 per week. They even offer private tours of the city starting at $80 per person. I like this company because they are all about bicycles. Back Bay Bicycles makes sure their customers know to take safety precautions when bicycling.

2. Cambridge Bicycle

842 Beacon Street in Boston is where the Cambridge Bicycle store is located. Their bicycle rentals are very reasonably priced. They have a location in Cambridge and one in Boston. Their rentals start at $25 for 24 hours. [2] This is great if you are planning to ride in an afternoon and then again the following morning. You could return the bike that day. You could also rent it out for the weekly special of $125 per week. Actually, the breakdown is 5 days with 2 free thrown in. However they determine it, it is still a huge savings and an awesome bike rental deal! They do not take phone reservations, but they have plenty of bikes for rent, so you should not have a problem with just walking in. Included in the rental package is a water bottle holder and helmet for your safety and lock to secure the bike. Now you can enjoy your ride with comfort and no worries. One of the unique products that Cambridge Bicycle offers is that they build custom bikes. How does vacationing in Boston and returning to your home with a custom bike you purchased that is as special and unique as you are sound?

3. Urban Adventures

This company just had to be on my list. Located at 890 Commonwealth Avenue, Urban Adventures is really family oriented. They have many different types of bikes suited for the young rider in your family. Rentals start at $35 a day for the first day, and $15 each additional day.[3] Their "Green" philosophy is evident in the way they service their customers by the organizations they support. You can place your order on-line and have the bicycles delivered to your hotel.

Bicycling in Boston is a lifestyle that is growing in popularity now more than ever. Towering gas prices make bicycling the natural choice these days. Plan ahead and spend a few days in Boston riding, dining and just plain soaking up all of the outdoor sights this beautiful city has to offer. There is so much to be seen.
