The Best Pop Artist of 2009

This year proved to be a power year in music. We saw many new artists come and go. Most were one hit wonders, but there were some that will have a lasting effect and promising career. Here are my 5 picks of Best New Pop artists of 2009.
The Jonas Brothers

I personally do not care for this brother band trio, but their marketability is insane. I'm putting them as number 5 on my list, not for their music, but for the affect they have had on young children, and their parents pockets, all over the world. They are super national rock stars, thanks to Disney Channel. These guys have a TV show, dolls, Disney, they have it all! Their music isn't all together bad, although their singing voices are extremely shrill and whiny. They are talented in many instruments,Nick Jonas - Lead Vocals, Guitar, Piano, Drums

I have to commend them because Lines and Vines have sold two-million copies to date. They have sold out albums in Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Australia, South America and New Zealand. Their manager/dad; in that order, must be proud.

She is an English pop and R&B singer-songwriter. Lewis rose to fame in 2006 as the winner of the third series of the British television series The X Factor. Lewis's debut single "A Moment Like This" became the fastest selling UK single after being downloaded over 50,000 times within thirty minutes of its release. Her second single, "Bleeding Love", reached number one positions in over thirty singles charts around the world. In November 2008 she set a record in the UK for the fastest selling download-only release with her cover version of the Snow Patrol song "Run" which sold 69,244 copies in two days. Lewis has sold over 6.5 million albums worldwide. She has an amazing voice and the face of an angel. Her song Bleeding Love, finally gave her the international attention she deserved. Lewis signed a book deal in January 2009 to release an illustrated autobiography in October 2009. The book, entitled Dreams, contains mostly pictures taken by photographer Dean Freeman. She has a huge heart, supporting and donating to many organizations for cancer and also is a member of PETA.

Duffy is a Welsh singer-songwriter. Her 2008 debut album Rockferry entered the UK Album Chart at number one. It was the best selling album in the United Kingdom in 2008 with 1.68 million copies sold. The album was certified several times Platinum, and sold over 6 million copies worldwide, spawning the hits "Mercy" and "Warwick Avenue". With "Mercy", Duffy became the first Welsh female in 25 years to achieve number-one on the UK Singles Chart. Her voice is amazing and sultry, kind of like a sober Amy Winehouse. This blue eyed soul singer is just getting started. I wish her a long and successful career.

It kills me to put her on the list but the impact of her career is hard to escape. My brother watches her show religiously, she has dolls, backpacks, shoes, hell she probably has a line of wigs for cancer patients(that's great marketing advice, Cyrus camp call me). She is worth billions of dollars and that is nothing to be ignored. She has recently been adopting a new image and sound, and I must say she can actually sing. Her latest single, Party in the USA, made it to number one on Hot Digital Songs with 226,000 paid downloads, making her the youngest artist to top the chart, which led its big debut on the Billboard Hot 100, where it was placed at number two, topping "The Climb" (that peaked at number four). The song thereby became the "fastest breaking single in Hollywood Records history"
The reason she fell so low on my list, is she hasn't exactly been the best role model for children this year. She is very down-home, which is regularly mistaken for provocativeness. Texans live like that. Out and loud with a 22 on there hip and pistol in there boot. Shes no Britney Spears, but then again shes no Hilary Duff either. If she stops acting; which I pray she does, she will have a very promising singing career.

Lady Gaga, is an American singer, songwriter and performance artist. I discovered Lady Gaga way before she broke out. She performed on stage at a local club last year. She performed her first hit "Just Dance" I knew she was gold. It took her a while to break out but it was well worth the wait. She has been in the business for a while. She was formerly signed and and dropped from Def Jam Records at 19. Since then she has been writing songs for the likes of Akon, and many others. Her debut album The Fame was released in August 2008 and was a critical and commercial success. In addition to receiving generally positive reviews, it has gone to number one in four countries, also topping the Billboard Top Electronic Albums chart in the United States. The album's first two singles, "Just Dance" and "Poker Face", have become international number-one hits, and the former was nominated for Best Dance Recording at the 51st Grammy Awards. She reminds me of modern day Madonna. She pushes the envelope and puts on a great show. She has collaborated with Common and Kanye west, singing her popular hook from "Poker Face". The woman has pipes and body to die for. Her voice is very powerful and reminds me a little of Christina Aguilera. She is defiantly the entertainer of the year and her VMA performance was classic, memorable and highly underrated. Lady gaga will be a lasting figure in this business. She has Madonna capacity. You can see the drive and determination in her face. So full of creativity and passion. She has her own creative production team called the Haus of Gaga, which she handles personally. The team creates many of her clothes, stage props, and hairdos.
