The Best Pumpkin Patches and Farms in the Philadelphia Area

Fall is here and that means it's time to go pick out some pumpkins at your favorite local pumpkin patch. While pumpkin patch pumpkins may be a tad more expensive than, say, grocery store pumpkins, you can't put a price on the experience, which often includes a hayride and a large selection of pumpkins that are still on the vine! In the Philadelphia area, there are many great pumpkin patches to choose from. Here are some of the best pumpkin patches in the Philadelphia area.

Located in beautiful Chester Springs, PA, this family-owned farm boasts a 10 acre pumpkin patch. Free weekend hayrides up to the pumpkin patch give visitors an educational overview of a working farm. After you pick out your pumpkins, be sure to stop and see the farm animals and then visit the on-site creamery, which features ice cream flavors like Bessie's Black Raspberry and Polly's pumpkin Pie (homemade on site using the milk from Milky Way farm's cows).

Not too far from Milky Way Farm is another wonderful pumpkin patch, in Collegeville, PA. Varner's Farm features 6 acres of pumpkins, horse drawn wagon rides, corn mazes, cattle roping, paint your own pumpkin activities and more. This farm has a real country feel to it and the gift shop offers many items including flowers, wreaths, jams and apple cider.

Over in the Lansdale area, Merrymead Farm is the place to go. This family owned farm is known for their annual storytelling and lighting of "The Great Pumpkin". They also have hayrides and a 5 acre cornfield maze. Fall harvest weekends include tractor and wagon rides around the farm, a 700 foot cornstalk tunnel, and plenty of children's games and activities, including Webkinz themed games.

In Delaware County, Linvilla Orchards has their annual Pumpkinland Harvest Festival. With giant scarecrows and over 100 tons of pumpkins, it is quiet a sight. This festival, which goes on every fall weekend from mid-September to early November, features live music, costumed characters, face painting, pony rides, hayrides and jack-o-lantern exhibit. While Linvilla does not offer pick your own pumpkins, there are pumpkins available for purchase. Also, be sure to check out their farm market which features fresh fruits and vegetables as well as pastries, preserves, fudge and 40 kinds of fresh-baked pie!

In the Lancaster area, Cherry Crest Adventure Farm features dozens of farm activities like farm wagon tours, pedal kart tracks, a hay tunnel and chute ride and more. Pumpkins can be picked from the farm's pumpkin fields. Cherry Crest Farm also has 5-acre corn maze and they also grown their own "popcorn", which can be picked off the stalk and popped at home. Voted as one of the "25 Cool Things To Do This Summer" by Sports Illustrated for Kids, the farm offers year-round fun for the entire family. Because there are so many activities at this farm, this is the place to go if you have older kids in your family.

    Remember going to the pumpkin field in California and picking our halloween pumpkin, hope you can take the grandbabies I know they will enjoy it. Great Article
