The Best Re-cut Movie Trailers on YouTube

Merz
Re-cutting movie trailers is a popular pastime for YouTube devotees if the sheer number of re-cuts out there is any indication. A search for "trailer re-cut" on YouTube gets you a return of more than thirteen hundred clips. A person could potentially spend a whole day going through re-cut movie trailers and never see the same trailer twice. The problem is that many of the trailers available on YouTube are really bad and not worth the two minutes it takes to watch them. You have to really dig through the muck to find the jewels in this mine.

I have done the dirty work for you. Here are the eight not to be missed.

1. Sound of Music recut
There were fun times and happy songs in The Sound of Music? Not in this version. It is a dark and menacing take on one of the most cheerful family musicals of all time. Who knew nuns and hills could be this creepy?

2. Office Space 'Recut'
Never has a re-cut been more effective at showing just how deceiving movie trailers can be. Office Space is a biting satire of office life. It is full of comical, over-the-top scenes and inside office jokes. This trailer shows what it could have been.

3. Brokeback to the Future
Using nothing from Brokeback Mountain except for the music, this re-cut captures the feel of the gay cowboy love story with only a few narrative words, and edits them together with clips from the Back to the Future movies. Were Doc and Marty really just good friends? Were they just genius scientist and eager protégé? Or was it love? You decide.

4. Imagine Me & You - Hermione/Ginny version
Enjoy a little creative femslash goodness with the trailer from last year's film Imagine Me & You. This re-cut version uses clips from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire over the soundtrack of the Imagine Me & You trailer, dropping Hermione and Ginny into the main roles. It is a side-splitting romp through the glories of dubbing. Watch for the glorious choices of clips and laugh hysterically.

"No. Absolutely not!"

5. Pan's Labyrinth (Pan's Mannequin)
A critically acclaimed, Oscar nominated, tragic fairy tale from 2006 meets a classic 1988 romantic comedy that, oddly enough, seem to share the exact same plot. The narration for the Pan's Labyrinth trailer plays under clips from Mannequin. Who knew it could work so well?

6. Redeeming Shawshank
Shawshank Redemption, the feel good comedy of the year. This well-edited re-cut, along with some snappy music, makes one of the most intensely disturbing films ever made look like a rollicking good time. Don't believe me? See it for yourself.

7.Funny Psycho trailer
What if Alfred Hitchcock were a hopeless romantic? Psycho probably would have looked a lot like this.

This trailer goes on about a minute too long. At first it is hysterical. Then it gets a little tired. But check it out anyway for the hilarious voiceover work.

8. Scary Mary Poppins
Half of the re-cuts available on YouTube pay tribute to this reworked trailer for Mary Poppins as their inspiration. Watch and find out why for yourself. Nobody would want this nanny.

While there are literally a ton of results for re-cut trailers on YouTube, I think that these 8 are the best that the site has to offer. Do a search and see if anyone has posted a re-cut trailer for your favorite movie on YouTube.
