The Best Resources for Writers

Maggie OLeary
There are a lot of great resources out there for new writers, and experienced veteran writers. In fact, there are so many that sorting through them can be overwhelming. I have detailed my favorite resources, and hopefully you can benefit from them as well.

The Accentuate Writer's Forum, which can be found at http://www.accentuateservices.com/xmb/. This forum is hosted by a lovely, lovely lady, Michelle L. Devon, known to her friends as Michy. I met Michy through my work on Associated Content, and she has been a savior to me and many other fledgling internet content writers. You'll find everything you need at this forum, from great, supportive discussion, to legitimate paying job leads. The forums are full of great tips and tricks to enhance your knowledge and increase your income. Michy even lists scams and publishers that you'll want to steer clear of. One thing you won't find, however, is drama and bashing. The best part of the Accentuate Writer's Forum is that membership is completely free of charge, and is open to everyone as long as they follow the rules.

Writer's Digest. Writer's Digest is a wonderful magazine, and contains tips on writing, as well as contests and job leads. Writer's Digest is a great resource for fiction and non-fiction writers. In addition to your paid subscription, you'll receive access to their website, which offers even more helpful information for writers. They also offer writing workshops, at a very reasonable cost. In addition, if you have a fledgling writer at home, Writer's Digest offers writing contests for youth from time to time. You can subscribe to Writer's Digest by visiting their website at www.writersdigest.com. A 6-issue subscription is less than $20.00, and the benefits you will reap are worth much more.

Writer's Market. Writer's Market is a great website, located at www.writersmarket.com, and offers job leads, and expert advice. You can also track your contracts and manuscripts on the site. For a limited time, you can enjoy a free 30-day trial with your paid one- or two-year subscription. For those writers who don't want a full yearly subscription, you have the option to pay monthly, at a cost of $3.99 per month.

These are just a few of my favorite resources. There are so many out there, it's hard to know where to start. I wish you luck, no matter how you choose to find information.

Great information. I'm a part of Michy's forum too. It's been very helpful and there are a lot of great writers on there (many of them are also from AC!).
